My LGS has a Model 51 on the rack, near mint, any serious downside on the 51's.

I have a number of 51's and I like them very much. They are very soft shooting in my opinion, and don't get to terribly dirty in my opinion. With that being said they do need maintenance. I figure an extra $60 into the purchase price of the gun for a spring and buffer kit from Diamond Gunsmithing in Ithaca NY. These guns where assembled with recoil springs that where to short straight from the factory. In addition the nylon bolt and receiver buffer get brittle with age. The kit is not difficult to install if you are handy. If the gun has been fired much with bad buffers the bolt carrier is known to crack. There are no replacements available however the part can be welded. I would check the condition on that part before purchasing the gun.

cutcher's advice is solid. Buy it and get the spring and buffer kit from Les and shoot the sh*t out of it. I have a bunch of 51's and I take them out whenever I can.
