We’re the Ithaca SKB shotguns designed by Ithaca & manufactured by SKB?
Or were these designed & manufactured by SKB & just have the Ithaca name?
If not designed by Ithaca, do they belong in an Ithaca collection?

.

AFAIK, they were made by SKB in Japan to Ithaca's specs.

As a reference, they are not included with guns made directly by Ithaca - no matter how good (And, they are 'good')

From what I have read, they were imported by Ithaca but the design was all SKB. Some had Ithaca Raybar front sights but I'm not sure if they were sent to Japan to be installed there or if they were added here. I consider my SKB's part of my Ithaca collection but I don't call them "Ithaca's" if that makes sense. By the way, they are very good over/unders. And still good values.

I would assume that, as the importer of SKB shotguns for a decade or more, Ithaca had quite a bit of input into specifications for the guns sold in America. I seriously doubt Ithaca had anything to do with the functional design or engineering of the guns, but it seems reasonable they would have a say about wood, engraving, choke/barrel length configurations. They were a big customer, after all.

I consider them SKBs, not Ithacas .. . . But that's just me.

Excellent field guns, IMO. My 500 has been flawless since `74.

Just to add to the confusion I believe I read and or heard that Ithaca actually made some of the SKB barrels during the roto forge era for the semi auto loaders.

That is interesting, hadn't ever heard it before. Wonder if Walt or Matt or anyone else would know for sure.
