Besides being very much over-priced, does any one have any information on who made up this two barrel set?

They state both barrels/barrel-sets have the same S/N. Wonder which one is the original?

I assume they are refinished.

I e-mailed them and S/N 95171 - 1952.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of possibilities as to who did the work. The seller may know, if you're seriously interested ask.

Described as "custom", ie., seller is specifying non-original. Writeup gives impression the "full" bbl was OEM, but the reverse is more likely given 1951 SN. Usual donor source for SR "full" would be a field model. Those were not cataloged past '48, supposedly.

Wood is obviously aftermarket.

That said, looks nice, metal and wood. Overpriced, some. Could go $4k-$5k at auction, tho.

Thanks Sam.

Would the solid ribs be aftermarket?

Do you think this is the original wood, but refinished?

Can't tell, but does it seem to have the proper Winchester butt-plate?

With original wood and without the rails, this would just be a standard 42 field-grade, correct?

Any other oddities?

What would you offer them for the gun?

Thanks again.

Most likely at least one rib is original. Could be both. Would need alot of closeups to make a better guess at source. SN suggests it would have been a SR skeet gun.

Pics are not good enough to say much about metal finishes, except that they look well-executed. Wood is nice, non-original, checkering an attempt to mimic the deluxe pattern.

Suspect it started life as a skeet gun. Two barrel sets aren't that common. If you like it, can verify mechanicals are good, might offer up to $3.5k.

Thanks again.

From past experience, this outfit isn't much for taking substantually lower offers.

They do have a sale a couple of times a year that is a 20% discount on EVERYTHING in the store. Still not close to the $3.5K.

They're a really big outfit and probably figure someone will eventually take it for what they ask.

Here's a link to all of their Winchester pump guns - some nice 42's, but inflated asking prices: https://www.collectorsfirearms.com/winc ... -shotguns/

In this market an auction house might work better for buyers.

They sure don't know very much about factory engraved guns.
