Am Looking at a early trap grade gun, Serial # 293.8xx. English checked grip stock, 12 ga, 30" solid rib barrel, early style checked foreend, full choke, and is in real nice shape for its age.

Markings on left side are the usual: Nickle Steel but then it says Model 12 not 1912.
Never seen one in this serial number sequence that was not marked Model 1912. Does
not seem to have any marks of buffed out numbers or discoloring like it was buffed.

Any possibility this was not altered, My instinct tells me no, but would like to hear from the guys who may know. The guns wood and steel seem original and in great shape.

Go with your gut. Only rarely will it steer your wrong. WW did not practice FIFO, except possibly with military contract jobs. So parts hung around, did not get tossed. The transition era - with all the variations - demonstrates this well.
