I acquired this Model 12 20 Gauge W/ Mod choke last year from an estate sale and have been so eager to take it out to harvest some game, I have taken it to the skeet field and shot a few 22's and 21's with it. Now the real test was real birds. There is nothing like harvesting birds with a vintage gun!

Nicely done! A very classic picture that could have easily been taken 90 years ago, except for the plastic bed liner in the truck!

I hate having photo hindsight, I was looking at the trash near the front of the bed and shaking my head as I posted this! I wish I coukd have used an old truck for the picture.

Model 12's are dove killing machines!! I always take my grandad's 16 ga model 12 out on opening day. Reminds me of him since he is no longer with us. The irony is he said I shouldn't shot doves as they were a holy bird.... They taste holy for sure!

Late gun judging from the third style field forend. If you took all those birds with only the one box of shells as shown in the picture, my hat's off to you. Opening day here in AZ we were shooting in an area between Tucson and Phoenix. I started with a Simmons ribbed 20 gauge 28 inch MOD gun and finished with a 16 gauge 28 inch pre-war plain barreled MOD gun. Got a few whitewings and Eurasians also. I needed a tad more than one box to limit though.

It's hard to explain to someone who has never had one what they taste like

Kinda like chicken, huh? Just kidding. I can't think of anything they taste like except doves, and that is fine indeed.

I call it the "small fillet of the sky" lol I've heard sandhill crane is very tasty in that aspect too, but never tried any.

Sandhill crane is pretty good. Cook it medium rare.
