I didn't clean the recoil tube and spring until at about 4,500 rounds (all trap) when the spring was showing signs of fatigue. I followed the heat gun procedures described here. The spring and tube were both clean. I lightly lubed the new spring and put things back together. I don't anticipate cleaning it again until the replacement spring starts to go. Same with the bolt. Though I clean it regularly, it has never actually needed it. Very little powder residue finds its way into the receiver.
