A local gun shop has a Winchester Model 21 that I am fairly certain is a Standard Model that has had the chambers lengthened and barrels and receiver stamped to try to pass it off as a DUCK Magnum. The store owner has send a request to Cody for historical information. My question is: If I am correct, do the modifications decrease the shotgun's Standard Model value? If so, by how much?

The letter will confirm its authenticity. However, if you can get a measurement of the LOP, that should tell you a lot. Every unaltered Model 21 I have seen has a shorter than normal LOP. I think they are around 13 3/4 if my memory serves me correctly. Good luck.
Model 21 was available in several different styles and configurations:
"5. Duck Gun: chambered for 12-gauge; 3" Magnum shells; 30" or 32" barrels; Standard Grade stock, except for shorter length of pull; marked "DUCK" on trigger plate. Built from 1940 to 1952."
