I recently picked up a Benelli M2 Tactical model 11052 as shown in the photo. I am struggling to figure out what kind of sling the designers had in mind using the stock sling attachments. I have various slings including a Magpul MS1 they are all 1.25" wide. The slot in the sling attachment on either side of the stock is only 1" wide. I have tried, and you really can't get a 1.25" sling through that slot. So my question is what type of sling did the designers at Benelli have in mind? I understand there are all sorts of alternative sling attachments by outfits like Noveske, GGG, and others. In fact, I have a Noveske flush mount QD adapter I could use but before I start drilling holes in my M2, I want to understand what was intended. I did quite a bit of research and did find this product: https://www.spectergear.com/ProductDeta ... =SG%2D1024I attached a photo that shows how they have a 1" wide section that attaches to the 1" attachment slot and I have one of these on order. I would love to be able to use my other 1.25" slings. I could not find the 1" short strap as an adpaper or sperate product. Really, I just want to understand what was intended to be used.

1" wide slings are the STANDARD for rifle sling attachment, have been for most of the 20th century.
That shotgun is "rigged", designed for rifle slings, standard-fit rifle slings.
You want to fit something unusual, you have to figure out how.

Could you perhaps suggest a particular product?

There's, literally, a million of them, depending 100% on what features YOU want.
Leather or synthetic. Do you want a "tactical" sling, that basically straps on over your chest, so you drop the gun to go to a handgun it just hangs there. Do you want a plain 1" strap, like militaries use. Do you want a wider strap, or a wider cushioned shoulder pad. What do you want that shoulder pad covered with, multiple options, from nylon through rubber and neoprene. Speed Adjustment, so you can easily "1-hand" snug the sling tight to keep it from being a big snagging loop as well as quickly expand it out to shoulder or renegade it to get it out of your hands. There are slings that double as shotshell bandoliers.
gads, I'm leaving off a LOT of things I am not thinking of.

I tried to use the side sling on my M4, but i didn't like how the gun hung from it. It kept trying to turn up side down. I finally gave up on the side mount and installed a sling stud on the bottom of the stock and used a USGI M14/M16 sling.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need a sling on a shotgun?

It's not a matter of need as much as want. There are various videos and articles that talk about the advantages. It can help support the gun while loading for one. I just want to experiment and see if I like it or not. I ended up finding and ordering this https://www.spectergear.com/ProductDeta ... =SG%2D1024The ends are 1" and will fit through the OEM sling supports. Waiting for it to come in.

If you are shooting slugs, especially through a rifled barrel with a scope, yes absolutely. But what about using a shotgun to shoot buck shot? Ever seen a skeet shooter use a sling? Sporting clays? Dove hunters? 3 gun tactical?

one reason I picked up from a video is that in a tactical situation, it can make it more difficult for a bad guy to yank it away from you.

In my not so humble opinion, a sling has no place on a home defense shotgun. Slings are equivalent to holsters for pistols. They are carrying devices. How far do you need to carry a home defense shotgun? Will you have time to sling up when there is a loud crash downstairs jolts you from a sound sleep? You certainly will not have to take a lone enough shot with a slug that you need a sling to steady your shot. Also, slings tend to get in the way and snag on things. They are the only part of your gun that can move around. They can get between your hand and the reloading port. They can hang on door knobs, night stand corners and as far as retention, that is a double edged sword. If a bad guy grabs your gun, if you are a trained martial artist it will work. If you are the typical over weight, over fifty diabetic the sling will serve the bad guy as a handle. He will jerk you around by it. If you absolutely must have a sling because that is what the military uses, you are carrying it on a hunt or whatever, at least get quick dethatch mounts so that you can take it off inside your home.
