It is good to have this thread with such a high concntration of best quality Russian guns. It serves as a handy response to those that like to assert that Russians produce junk. Thanks to all who posted these great photos.

I have handled most of the smoothobore models pictured above. The Purdey-Beesley action SXS is one of the best made guns I have ever touched, and in the comparison I include the original Purdey and Atkin originals. The Russian versions have something the British versions of the action do not- high grade engineering input. For instance the Russian guns are fully radiused at edges, in the corners where the lumps meet the flats and so on. They are small but significant details in a best gun.

The engraving on Russian guns is not to my taste, but the Celtic style engraving on the OU above is really nice.

I was interested to see these pictures, I have had and used this shotgun for some time and been ridiculed on occasion for shooting that Russian.
I own Garbi, Merkel, and various English shotguns and bought this this purely because it struck me as being very high quality.
Any input would be greatly appreciated especially in the exact identification of what it may be.

For some reason I can only attach 3 pics if anyone needs more let me know I have more.
Thanks

clyshot,

Nice shotgun. It is a MTs-111-12 model.

I am guessing it is probably worth around $30 - 40,000.

More details here: http://www.tulatskib.ru/ohota_pdf/111_a.pdf

TSKIB-SOO has recently started making a sporting version of its traditional MTS-7 model.

It is called MTs-7-12 Sporting.

I was able to get photos of the very first guns while they were being produced.

Tozman-

Those revolving cylinder shotguns are definitely something else! How do they operate?

Have you ever had the chance to fire one?

Having shot almost all of the shotguns shown here, I feel lucky!

The one that stands out above the rest is the Purdey actioned model 11. It is a superb gun, and from the metal smithing angle (and in my opinion) better executed than the English gun. It really has to be seen from up close to appreciate the quality of the work.

The Vostok trap and skeet guns are also worth seeing from up close to appreciated the true meaning of zero tolerance fitting. These things lock up tighter than a bank vault.

Vikram,

Thanks for the interest.

The manufacturers of these fine guns (Tskib Soo) has a new website: http://www.tulatskib.ru/

You may contact them and ask who is importing these firearms in England.

There used to be an importer (can't remember who it was). I know, because I read an article in a magazine a couple of years ago.

Good luck.

As for the pictures, some of them are from this Russian forum : http://talks.guns.ru/forummessage/1/089649.html
Just click on the photos and you will get a high resolution version of them.

Tozman,it appears that the spring and the hammer in the mt7 looks very like those in an mt8 01.Could you find out if these would be interchangable.

Is there any reason why they stopped making the guns with the Greener bolt? I always liked that in a 'heavy use' shotgun (feels solid).
