It's served me well, but after firing both barrels this weekend, i went to move the top lever and reload, but it's 'stuck'

It will move ever so slightly, but it stops against something solid feeling, like a physical 'safety' - thus preventing me from ever opening the barrels.

I've pulled the stock off, both hammers were obviously up against the pins, and both would move ok when pushed against the pins.
I cocked them with a screwdriver and fired, bottom fired ok, top barrel released, would will now not reach the firing pin, i can't see what's holding it.

Does anyone know what's going on here, or how i can fix this?

Thanks.

I suspect a problem with intercepting sears - the parts that won't let the hammer reach the firing pin if the gun is accidentally discharged without a pull on the trigger (e.g., if the gun is dropped). If these go wrong, they could be interfering with the cocking, which you feel like 'something is blocking the gun'. Only a suggestion. Remove the stock again, and inspect the wooden parts inside - there might be a chip or something. Try cocking the gun manually, switch to upper barrel manually (assuming you have a single trigger gun), and snap it, while holding a hexagonal pencil against the firing pin hole (that will tell if the pin could break the primer).

So, without going to have another look at it (i'll have to wait until tomorrow) When i say something is blocking the gun, i mean the top lever.

It moves, maybe a mm, and is then up against metal or something physically preventing the movement, rather than just a kind of jammed feeling, if that makes sense?

I did cock the gun manually, the bottom barrel (first) fired ok, the top barrel released, but didn't make it to the firing pin and won't allow you to push it there either. (even though it was there when i pulled the stock off)

if you drop the plate you might have something stuck under preventing it from rotating.

yes. there is a plate that has a star type screw. back that screw off and that plate will drop away. there is a spring so remove it slowly.

That'd be great! :)

I had another look last night, but i've so little time right now, i can't see where to pri it open from, i saw reference to putting a longer screw in the guard side hole to push it out, but i can't find oue that'll fit right now.

i looked at it and i couldnt find my screwdriver to take the stock off. but while looking i pried the plate off where the barrel lug fits so you have to have the barrel off prying it like that. im thinking you just might have to send it in to ussg

I never took an O/U apart, but on my Izh 54 sbs the plate sat so tight I had to knock it out with a hardwood stick and a hammer...

Darnit, yeah, i can't really get anywhere to pry it without damaging something :(

Who is/are USSG ?

I have seen mention of using a longer version of the screw in the hole that the trigger guard goes into:

Quote:
Use an M6x1 or 5 mm screw as a jackscrew through the trigger guard screw hole and the plate comes up very easily without fear of bending it or scratching anything.

So i got a screw for the plate, but it just goes through to the trigger assembly and i didn't want to push too hard on it.

Still can't get the plate off :(

I'm wondering if something is now bent, i'll try and get a close up pic maybe someone can see something wrong.

that plate is hardened and wont be bent too easy i think. ot at least it should have some temper on it. im thinking if you can get one of those bent awl hooks in there you should be able to rock that plate off. ussg/eaa are the importers for the baikal. you can also contact remington. see if there is a local smith for remington as well.

Remington stated there is a local place, but every account i've read of them says they're useless and can't fix anything....

A hook is all i can think of too, or just something to grab the screw with once it's in the plate.
