Mike,
Nice photograph. I bagged my first Gadwall this past season; a drake, and a pterodactyl of a drake at that. The Gadwall, along with the drake Spoonie, are pretty underrated birds in my opinion.

Good enough for a postcard IMO!

Nice picture, Whistler.
Tide, yes, better known as gray ducks here. We used to shoot lots of them in SE La., but not much anymore.

I remember all the boats leaving the launch in the dark, loaded with hunters and dogs and equipment, sometimes not much freeboard, it`s a miracle nobody drowned!

Thanks to all that responded. I agree that Gadwall are underrated and the drakes are particularly handsome birds. This is the first pair I have seen inland in Connecticut and I have been a hardcore waterfowl hunter for 50 years.

I agree, Mike. Gadwalls are fine birds. I've always been pleased to have them in the day's bag and on the table.

lossking,
I agree living in La in Slidell for a time, they were around my over grown boat dock, simply beautiful Gray Ducks. Not as taste as Wood Ducks but very good eating in their own right.

Pine Creek/Dave L.C. Smith Man Maybe not quite the equal of teal or wood ducks, but I never met one I didn't enjoy taking home for dinner.

Beautiful picture! as an aside for all the talk about woodies and teal being a better eating duck i've yet to cook any bird that tasted quite so good as a briefly brined then low temp smoked mallard breast.
