What methods do you guys use to dispatch a wounded pheasant? I was always told to wring their neck but that really doesn't work that good and honestly is disrespectful to the bird.

Grab their feet, put your boot over the bird’s neck just in front of the boot heel in that recess, then give the bird a good pull and the head comes right off. Let it flop around to bleed out if necessary

Place hand over the back, grip and squeeze.

For small birds, i.e. dove, quail, pigeons I place the neck between the index and middle finger and squeeze hard. Cuts off air and blood flow producing a quick demise. For larger birds, ducks, geese, pheasant and grouse you might try this. Although I haven't used one yet it looks effective and easy to use. Not a fan of ringing the neck either but I do it when needed. http://www.cutemdownwaterfowl.com/produ ... ting-tool/

On birds the size of ducks and smaller, I hold the body and whip the head hard against the buttstock of my shotgun. It is instant. I hate trying to wring necks and usually end up pulling off the head. When I try to squeeze them to death it seems to take too long or it isn't successful.
It just plain sucks not to make a clean kill with the shot, but it happens. :-(

I too have not found much luck with neck wringing. On birds the head tends to pop off doing this so...I guess that works good. But on ducks it's not as good.

I just watched the Adrenal Line Finisher video... I'll stick with whacking their heads against the buttstock!

I been a neck ringer on ducks and geese for many years. I have hunted with guys who put the head of a duck under the palm of their hand and press it against someting hard. They crush the skull. I have seem them do it against shotgun forearms, boat gunnels, and 2x4's that a blind is built from.

You grab them by the neck and pinch the neck so you're putting pressure all in one spot, then spin the birds body, but as the bird body is in it's first 180 revolution going up you, you snap it down (like a bull whip) in the direction the neck does not bend and snap their neck. Some people call that ringing their neck others call it snapping their neck. It's fast and painless, works with all birds but you need some muscle to do with with big geese.

Gunner76, I have been smacking the heads of Grouse, Woodcock, Quail and Pheasants on my unloaded L.C. Smith, LeFever and Best J.P. Sauer double guns for 50 years, to end game birds lives. Make sure you wipe the blood off the barrels or stock correctly, before moving on with the hunt. Some say this will rust the barrels or damage the stock of a good gun, it never has mine. I do the same most of the time, learnt to do that to rabbits when I was a kid. But for larger birds like geese the windmill is quickest and easiest with only one hand free.
