I realize some states have already opened, and some will come later, but GA Dove Season begins at noon on Saturday. I’m taking my 28 ga Ithaca Model 37 and my Stevens 311 410. Let’s see what the rest of y’all are taking afield.

Our opening two days here in SE Kansas involved a bunch of rain showers but I got out today for a couple hours with my CZ Bobwhite 28ga and was disappointed with very few doves seen.

I really would like to shoot both the guns I`m taking for our Georgia dove opener. Remington 870 Express and Fabarm L4S Initial Hunter, both 12s.

I shot my CZ "Mallard" double trigger 20ga O/U the day before yesterday, our AZ early dove opener. Will be shooting it again in the morning for Round 2 of the dove season and every other round thereafter.

Here in New York, we don't have a dove season. They're classified as "song birds."
But when the ruffed grouse season opens in a few weeks, I'll be carrying a Franchi 48 AL.

I'll be toting my 28 gauge Dickinson, or one of my LeFevers, chasing the dogs looking for woodcock.

7dawg,
Have not hunted Doves in quite a few years, Grouse & Woodcock season here in Pa opens mid October. Hope to have my newly acquired #5 L.C. Smith double gun back from having a new Side Lock Screw made so I can go out opening day with her. If not I will probably use my 16 gauge 00 with the #1 gun engraving. If the foliage is real thick and some times it is, I will use the 12 Gauge #4 gun with some SpredR shells.
October is still a ways off!

I keep this gun around solely for dove hunting, 12ga Benelli Legacy. Depending on the shots I'll swap between IC and Mod chokes. I have used my 687 20ga in the past and I might try my hand with the newly acquired 686 28ga at some point in the season. I have the SBE3 for a backup or loaner should the need arise.

I'm either going to shoot a Model 42 Winchester or a .410 Citori. We use decoys and .410s are plenty and lots of fun to shoot. I can normally take a limit with about 20 shots.

Turk,
The inventor of the Mojo Dove decoy has abetted the early demise of an unfathomable number of doves at this point...they just work so dang good! I’ve had the same one for probably 10 years now, and it just keeps chugging along and tractor-beaming the birds in. I’m very thankful we can use the motorized version here in Missouri as I know not everyone in the other states can.
In response to the original post, I bought a cheap Tristar as a beater duck gun and it has been cutting its teeth admirably on the doves. I shot my limit on opening day and another 10 birds today. The gun patterns well with an improved cylinder choke and #7 steel shot, and it has next to no recoil with dove loads. The gun has been a great use of $250 so far.
