For squirrel I use my Itacha Model 37 16ga. It is light to carry all day and fast with the pump. Sometimes in the summer time I will take my Itacha Model 66 single shot 12ga. Only trouble with this gun is that it shoots like a small canon........

Know what you mean about that model 66. My brother had a Winchester single shot 12 gauge that weighed about 5 lbs. and would rock your world when you pulled the trigger.

My "go to" gun is my old Marlin 55GDL, 8Lb perfectly balanced with 25.5" of barrel. Once a year I try to keep my father happy and carry his old .410 double. The rest of the time I have a single in my hands, 12ga for birds and an H&R Sportster for Hare.

20 gauge FAIR Safari O/U is my goto gun - it is also my big game goto, with a set of 6.5X55 barrels.

Back in the 1960s, my BIL had a Ithaca 66. You are right. That guns sounds like a cannon with a sledge hammer on the shoulder. He died about twent years ago and I don't know what happened to the gun.

My go to gun is my Franchi Diamond 12 gauge. If I'm after squirrel or too tired to lug a heavy gun around, I go with my 20 gauge American Arms o/u.

When I hunt Grouse, I prefer my 20ga SKB XL 300 be in my hands. If, and it's not often enough, I hunt rabbit then I grab the Winchester 37 single .410.

It's amazing how we all have one gun for this or that now (and please don't flip your chickens ) I have more then one gun. I just thought it was funny. But I have four guns to pick from 12ga single shot ,20ga single shot,.410 single shot, .410 bolt action. And everyone of them as taken all kinds of small game. But for rabbits&squirrels it's the .410 bolt action.

Remington 870 12 gauge has always been my gun of choice. Now that I'm up in age my go to gun is my sons Remington 870 youth 20ga with an adult stock.

well i think its a simple theory, something youre confident with and something youre not afraid to get down and dirty with, and to me thats the definition of a remington 870, particurally in 20 ga. That being said i just recieved a browning 12 ga automatic that i'm gonna hopefully bring some meat home with tomarrow, but the weight of the 870 and durability/ simplicity is crucial to me.

870 express 28"vr. Love it. A lighter gun isn't always the key either then you've got a harder kicking gun.

Beretta AL391 Urika auto.

Does me for clays, wildfowling, woodpigeon, and general vermin control.

For formal driven days (say 3 a year) it's an English 2 1/2" 12 G SxS. I do take other guns out just for the sheer pleasure of using them, but really there isn't anything the auto doesn't handle very well. If I was forcibly reduced to one gun (horrid thought) the Beretta would be it.

For small game my "go to" gun is my Savage 24 combination gun with .22 lr on top and 20 gauge on bottom.

In a wilderness survival situation I'd probably choose it over any other gun.
