I still have my boyhood savage .22/.410 & it's my go to squirrel gun. it's a 50's model with a walnut stock & the firing pin selector is a button slide on the receiver. 2nd choice is a glenfield model 75. I gave 15.00 for it in 1975. it's not much to look at but will digest any ammo I feed it, has never misfired or jammed, & it's a tackdriver.

If you want to spend a little more for a really fun .410, check out the Tristar Viper G2. I have one and love it.

There are some good cheap sxs 410 shotguns, but I've done a lot of hunting with a single shot as a kid a d liked the light handy little gun. Take your pick of any of the cheap light guns you find on the rack of the local dealers shelf and enjoy it.

The .410 single shots are a lot of fun. I took my Stevens 94C to the skeet club a while back. I start with the gun down. When I called for the first bird, I nearly threw the little Stevens clear over my shoulder.
I have the urge to buy other single-shots in 20ga and 12ga, but can't think of a good enough reason to do so... (and that doesn't mean I won't, eventually).

The is only one good reason to buy any gun, because you want to.

410 3" loads are my favorite guns /loads for rabbits, quail & dove. Usually carry a 12g in my car too, when hunting for any of these three. But, my 1st choice is my S/S Stevens or a pump BPS.
As stated by others, range is limited on 410, but I truly enjoy just being afield whether or not I drop any game.

The best thing about a .410 is there is a whole lot less rearward movement when you shoot. Your shoulder will appreciate the .410 more that the .12!

I still have my Kmart single shot .410 my Dad got me when I was 10 years old. Killed plenty of small game with it. Planning on giving it to my son soon since he's just about the same age I was when I got it. Something very fun about hunting with a low recoil gun, be it a .22 or a .410.
