It would have been hell trying to figure the hold-over to put a 12ga. slug on target at that range. You'd probably have to plant the buttstock in the dirt and fire the gun like a mortar...

Nothing like the ol' WinMag to get the job done at long range. I have a Winchester Model 70 .300 in the safe. It's killed a moose at distance and a couple of not-so distant caribou. I did shoot one whitetail with it and decided not to do that again.

Congratulations on the elk. :)W

21 years? Why so long? When I lived in Rifle back in the 80s, it was go to the drug store and buy your license on opening day. I know CO went the way of NV sand a lotto system, but 21 years? YIKES!
In any event, nice bull! and CONGRATS!

Ranching for wildlife. Private ranch. Only 2 Bull tags issued yearly. 100% success.
Over the counter tags available yearly, on public land. 15% success rate.
Started points in 1998. Wanted area 201, took 12 points. Last check, it took 24 points.
I would never get there.
Needed to find a hunt while I still could and I did.
