Just a goal to keep me interested. So far its been 47, missing on number 8. My thinking is using the same 12 ga gun using 1oz and 7/8oz loads until I achieve this goal and then move on to another gauge. I have tubes but they are for another gun. Any advice?

Quit counting.
Shoot every shot one at a time.

I broke my first 50 straight in more than one gauge while I was not counting or worrying about it. As pointed out, just shoot every station as if you are already straight.

Work on your weaknesses until they become your strength. Go to station 8 and shoot it until you can dust at least 10 targets in a row. Go there with enough ammunition and with your mind set on the task at hand, mastering this station. Work on your point of hold and stance until you start crushing targets, then keep crushing those targets until success is ingrained into your mind and muscles.

If you are missing station 8 often when you are not straight then you probably need some help/practice with station 8.
If most of your station 8 misses are when you are straight then you need to figure out how to control your nerves. Nerves are a barrier to focus on shooting fundamentals because too much of your focus shifts to the source of the nervousness, the straight. When nerves kick in you may need to double your efforts to focus on keeping your head on the stock and eye on the target. I've shot quite a few 99s because nerves made me forget to keep my head on the stock near the end of the fourth round.

If you feel the pressure on eight, during practice save your option, and shoot two low eights. That way it becomes common place and just another shot when it is for real.

I looked up the rule and my friends are right, the first miss is to be repeated on the same house and station. That being said if its just a casual shoot with friends I'm sure they would not mind if I saved my option for station 8.

Yes, in a registered shoot that is how the option has to be shot. In a practice round, if you want to take your option anyplace on the field, no one but an idiot jerk would object.

Wrfish, I'm talking practice not a registered round.
Maybe I'm lucky but I've never had anyone complain about shooting things a bit different. I'll sometimes shoot all stations as doubles, report pairs, or reverse report pairs.

For example, on station one you would normally shoot a high 1, then a low 1.
On a reverse report pair, you call for the low house, and then the high house is thrown as soon as you shoot at the low target.
Makes for interesting shots especially on 3 and 5.

We do the same. Many of us will shoot two sets of doubles on 1,2,6,&7. For some reason no one has ever postponed their option shot, maybe I will be the first.

Yep. Stop counting. One bird at a time. Get a routine or mental sequence and stick with it. Running a bunch straight becomes more of a mental problem than a technical issue.

27 straight! You're more than 1/2 way there.
