Need a good methods of repelling snakes fron skeet houses. Discovered a 4 foot eastern diamondback rattle snake just outside the high house door today. Have to admit I'm not crazy about loading the traps now.

You could try a mongoose. I know the problem isn’t cobras, but maybe you can find one that is open minded.

Sulfur spread heavily around should work. Snakes hate that smell. There are other similar products that use red pepper/cayenne. Baited traps can work as well

I'm thinking 1 ounce of #9 shot will be plenty.

Well the serpent in question is a none issue and it only required 1 ounce of lead total. First shot resulted in a lost target due to unexpected target movement, shooter inexperience with a release trigger, and choice of .410. To the shooters credit he picked up dead target with his option. Now I'm more concerned with close or distant relatives of the previously mentioned target and his close proximity to the high house.

Which is where sulfur or moth balls comes into play.

Since a wild mongoose can be tricky to acquire in this country, perhaps a weasel that identifies as a mongoose can be convinced to give it a go? They seem to be common in DC these days. tp (not particularly open-minded after all)

A friend and I were going through a pile of lumber at our club and sure enough a rattler was under it. A 28ga 3/4oz was more than enough. We are starting to get a infestation of praire dogs in our club grounds which will always attract snakes. The dogs spill over from a connecting pasture next to our club. Cattlemen hate the little critters as they can ruin a pasture in short order.

The snakes are there likely because of a good rodent population. Get rid of them and you won’t likely see snakes.

I live in west Nebraska which has been in drought conditions this summer. My daughter lives on a farm. This summer snakes are plentiful in her yard because of the availability of water. She hates snakes with a passion. Several years ago she walked into her kitchen to find a 4 ft Bull Snake on her kitchen counter ( long story on how it got there). I think that incident will shorten her life for several years I never will kill a Bull snake as they do eliminate rodents which should result in less rattle snakes. My daughter does't agree.

I think the question was how to prevent them not eliminating them after they appear. I think the moth balls or cayenne will prevent them from showing up.
