This isn't a 'what's the best choke' thread. Everyone is entitled to and has their own opinion on that. This is a discussion on what chokes You are using for Skeet in a O/U gun, how you have them set up in the top and bottom barrels . . and most importantly 'why' you have them set up that way?

If I am shooting for score, I use .005 in both barrels also. If I am just shooting as a warm-up for sporting, I use my LM/M which I have in the gun normally.

You're going to give yourself a headache and hurt your scores overthinking this. Chokes simply aren't that important in skeet. Put in two skeet chokes and forget about it.

Complete waste of time to worry about it until you are AAA, until then .005 and .005, for all gauges.

Only reason I asked is because most skeet shooters at my club apparently use 2 different chokes . . some with the more open choke in the bottom barrel and some in the top. Just wondered why someone would choose to do it one way or the other.

One for outgoers and one for incomers, the old "Skeet In/Skeet Out or .003 and .008

Skeet in the bottom. Cylinder in the top.
Shooting international from from low gun and on delay.
By long habit, the more constricted choke goes in the bottom barrel.

I think that's a good comment about rank-and-file-shooters, and I definitely am one. Just taking up Skeet at 74 and getting outgoers before the stake is challenging for me. Hope I get quicker with more familiarity with the hold and look points. Using Todd Bender approach.

A couple of years ago, I experimented with Skeet for the incoming clays and IC for the going away targets. Remembering when to switch barrels was a distraction, so I resumed shooting Sk / Sk and never looked back. Having said that, I have a sweet LC Smith with fixed IC / IM chokes, redone by a great barrel and choke smith. My scores with that shotgun are pretty much the same as with my Sk / Sk shotguns after a few shots to get the feel when going to the side-by-side. -Ed

I shoot what came with my Kolar that I bought used, which is .005 in both barrels for 12 and .005/.006 in both barrels for everything else.

I thank GOD I never caught up in the 'endless choice' game of screw in chokes. I shoot nothing but older guns with factory bored bbls between .002-.003. the gun never changes. I do. so when something goes wrong, I cant blame the gun (or choke choice)

Briley SK in the top barrel, and an SK in the bottom barrel.

I don't have 2 skeet chokes for my O/U although I could easily buy another. I don't shoot registered so I just use what I have. I do have one of each of the following: cylinder, skeet, and improved cylinder. I use the tighter choke in the bottom barrel for the outgoers theory and have used both skeet in the bottom and cylinder in the top and improved cylinder in the bottom and skeet in top. I seem to do slightly better with the latter. This is for a 20 gauge shooting 7/8 ounce loads.
