I have two sets of chokes for my 20 ga, 28 ga, and .410 Briley tubes - .005 and .003. If you buy a skeet gun from Robert Paxton this is what you will get - unless you ask for something else. I've patterned my gun a lot - factory AA's and STS, various reload recipes, across the three gauges. I finally came to the view that the difference between the .005 and .003 is not enough to worry about. That said, I tend to use .003 chokes in the 20 ga, and .005 for the other two. I don't shoot the 12 ga - use the 20 ga for 12 ga and doubles events. If I were to submit myself to 12 ga recoil for registered events, I imagine I would shoot cylinder chokes. Why not - with all of that shot to fill out a pattern? |

I have screw-in .005 in both barrels of my 682 that I shoot right now, but I have a P-gun barrel set on order from the factory in Italy and at the dealer's recommendation it will have .004 fixed chokes in every barrel. The more I think about it, swapping out chokes for skeet just doesn't make sense. If I decide I don't like the fixed chokes, then I'll just take it to Briley and have them install thin-walls. That is, if I ever see the new gun given the travel restrictions and lockdowns. |
