I read an article that stated tournament shooters should be prepared to supply their own shells, due to the lack of commercial ammo available. Think of the shipping charges you would face if you are not driving! This will effect, in my opinion, shooters picking the tournaments to participate in. In my own club, we have been unable to get loaded shells and reloading components.

As a reminder, UPS & Fedex Ground are the ONLY legal means by which to ship ammunition.
Ammo cannot, under ANY circumstances, be shipped USPS.

Ammo cannot, under ANY circumstances, be shipped USPS. Not quite accurate...... of the three you mentioned, that statement is correct. But several times in years past, my entire squad would use a freight company to ship ammo to different venues.

I guess I never counted on someone palletizing shells and sending them as a LTL shipment. What does something like that cost, and what are the timing and logistics like?

We have 2 pallets of shells on order for the club. They told us they were at least 30 days out and that was about 30 days ago. No sign of them yet.

If it becomes necessary to ship your ammo to fly-away shoots, most won't. That would seriously curtail shooters traveling to those shoots.

Ammo cannot, under ANY circumstances, be shipped USPS. I would also add that, based on my experience 2 years ago with shipping some reloads to get proof tested, UPS sucks at shipping ammo with several hurdles placed in your path to ship it. I ended up shipping it with FedEx with no problems whatsoever - AND - they were cheaper to boot.

It's $32 for me to ship a flat of 20ga I sold to TX, and that's what a slight discount and coupon code @ UPS. It has to go with Adult Signature required, and that's $6. Shippo would be a bit cheaper, but I can't figure out how to attach adult signature to a shipment through there.

At the club yesterday I saw a couple of flats of Challenger 20 ga. A friend told me that Remington is starting to ship ammo. All other components are difficult to get!

This season I plan on flying myself to shoots around the metropolitan area. NY, PA, NJ, CT, MA etc. maybe I can make some money shuttling ammo! Manhattan and Eastern Long Island Skeet Shooters, let me know. Bob
