More than once I've been in a shoot where the score keeper called out "Last Pair" for the end pair and someone thought they were calling the previous pair as "lost pair". I mean, it does sound awful close, and can easily be confused.

Some scorekeepers will use "Final Pair", which I think is much better way to go. Any one have any thots on this?

Agree Mule,

I have had the same experience -- in fact it happend to me twice at the Westerns last week. Generally it is inexperienced trappers that also talk softly. I gently request they use "final pair" for that reason.

I prefer that nothing be called out. Spoils my concentration.

Says something about the solidity of my mental game but I know I'm not alone with this feeling.

It's also a hold over from the days of manual traps and "remote" pullers. Not really necessary with current technology just like someone yelling out "new shooter" when stepping into the cage.

If some one tries to keep going after shooting the final pair then step in and say something but otherwise, don't interrupt the process.

Should everyone send their ideas for a new thread to you for screening/approval first? Email please.

It can for sure --

Example: I am in the box, I break a pair, and I hear the trapper softly say, "l#st pair." I have to stop my preshot, look back at them and say, "But I hit both." They then say, "I said LAST pair." Now I have to reset my entire program for the last pair. Is it a big deal? No. Can it be an unnecessary distraction? Yes.

Personally, I would have been too embarrassed to even ask this one. I'm sure I'll take heat, but so what. Go stand in your safe zone and let the rest of us shoot.

Then why bother replying to it?

Why don't you come out to NorCal and shoot with Mule and I -- we'll show you your safe zone!

If the person doesn't object to calling out, I say "Last pair coming", so they know they are about to shoot the last pair for the station.

I seen many, many shooters confused by this situation, but this is not a hill I need to die on, so I just don't let it bother me.

I can't hear a thing when I have my ear plugs in. Trapper could say "your a$$ is on fire" and I would smile and nod.

I prefer "Final Pair" for the reasons stated.

I have some custom molded ear plugs that really cut out the noise, coupled with 25+ years of construction, 20 years of loud music, shooting and working in auto repair I appreciate a trapper that calls out somewhat loudly but not obnoxiously.

I would suggest that if a Trapper is going to say "Last Pair", they should have been calling hit/miss all along so the final call should have been "dead a pair", "last pair coming" or in my case "lost a pair, last pair coming".

I agree. I've had this exact thing happen, and I think it is a legitimate distraction.

when I'm trapping I say "one more". That seems to satisfy the guys I always shoot with.
