I recently purchased a golf cart for use in my small town as well as to take on a trailer to sporting events. The minute I mention to an insurance guy about trailering it on the highway, they immediately say they can't offer insurance. I am looking for liability, theft type coverage.

For those who trailer a golf cart, can you let me know what agencies you have found? It is not able to be covered by my Homeowner's or my Auto policies...........
So far, Foremost and Progressive and Geico have said NO.

TIA!

Look at your auto policy and see what it says about trailers attached to your vehicle. Look in the policy fine print where it defines insured, not the declarations. Should say vehicle and trailer. Mine covers it. For liability only. Once the cart is off the attached trailer and in use different story.Check your homeowners for theft coverage. I use Auto-Owners Ins.

USAA insures mine. The won't do UTV's but will do my EZGO. You have to submit POI at Nationals (NSC) and Clark County Shooting Complex, Las vegas,

American Family will cover it if you add them.

We got a liability policy thru Allstate. I believe it’s on the same policy as the Harleys.

One of the top companies I write with is Erie Insurance ( I am independent and offer several companies). They are regional and write in 12 states as well as the District of Columbia.

They endorse the golf cart on their auto policy. This would cover physical damage ( comprehensive & collision) as well as theft, vandalism, etc. both on and off the trailer. The liability extends from the vehicle which is pulling the trailer/golf cart while it is on the trailer. Liability extends from your homeowners policy when the golf cart is off the trailer.

Good luck,

Dave

I asked my insurance agent and he said anything attached to the truck was "the vehicle".

In terms of liability, he also said my umbrella covers liability. Will they defend me when I back my cart into somebody? I don't know.

My trailer is covered by my truck insurance.

My cart has it's own insurance.

Many years ago when I went to my first US OPEN I had to get insurance for my cart.

My cart is covered by Progressive.

I have used it for years.

If I was you I would check with Progressive.

One Ounce Load

This seems odd as I have Foremost covering my cart written by my Farmers agent. I travel within the state[AZ] and have never had an issue. Just carry liability and theft insurance approx. $70 per year is what it cost me. I keep it at my home range[Ben Avery] and they require it be insured for liability. That said I have never had to file a claim while traveling so who knows for sure.

I had foremost covering my Ranger and golf cart and I now have Progressive. Full coverage from both. Only changed from Foremost because Progressive was cheaper.
