I understand what you are saying. Do yourself a favor and try adding a bone conduction amplifier to the plugs like the Walker’s Raptor. You will be amazed how comfortable they are and how well you can hear even with high NRR plugs in place. The bone conduction amplifiers send the sound around the plugs, not through them.
