The forum software got a major overhaul today. I also noticed that a certain admin no longer has admin powers anymore. Maybe that means myself and the many others who were banned by him can come back?

I used to visit that site often, but got the dreaded orange screen/buzzer a few times and had enough.

Does that mean Vertical Scope installed the same new Xenforo that they did on National Gun Forum and one of the S&W forums? If so, it is a major improvement over most old systems, but folks will have a learning curve initially.

Don’t visit there so I’m not commenting on that site per se and I realize moderation can be taken to the extreme. (There’s a play on words) This site in my opinion has achieved the right balance much more than some I frequent.

One site related to my occupation is a source of good information if you can wade through the pi**ing matches that develop after the first couple posts. Every subject devolves into a squabble eventually, some sooner than others. Virtually no moderation even though there is thread those things are supposed to be contained in.

Anyway, appropriate moderation is always beneficial to the working of public discourse.

SGW has a lot of good points but I don't see that happening ever.

Two threads right now on TS.com that illustrate what is wrong with that site:
the one about SKB guns and the one about 1oz vx 1 1/8oz loads.
Some guys just can't stop being ugly to posters who have differing opinions.
What makes it doubly bad is that the "moderator" is one of the worst offenders.

I think the New format looks terrific! Learning to navigate the new system is a bit confusing but a challenge for me. I enjoy the ease that photos are added, something that doesn't happen here.
The SGW audience is very difficult to sell items to, the opposite at TS.com. Big, nice photos work good!
If the ogre under the bridge is indeed gone I believe that the participation will explode with activity.

but ts.com only limits one ad per user.
unless of course you pay them for a vendor ticket.

It is now a very attractive looking site. Although not banned, I don't post there anymore but it certainly has more "curb appeal" as a site.

a couple of things at play here.
keep in mind, carbon media group has the monopoly on forum websites. they are either Canadians outright, or they are americans operating in canada to avoid taxes.
next, the new ts site is owned by (second) media group.
either carbon' changed their corp name or ts is now owned by another corp.
if you study all the websites owned by carbon', youll see they are changing all of them to one format.
it is more advertiser friendly, meaning pop ups, ads in your face, ads in your threads, (even sgw does this now,) smaller posting blocks and bigger ad blocks.
as much as we would like to think otherwise....the web owners are not interested in your hobby. they just want to sell and advertise. vendors love it. we bite the bullet, because vendors are jealous that small owners can turn more sales ftf or in private than they can. we get to do it w/o them getting their greedy little hands in our dealings.
I have been told numerous times, that I had more guns in my home than the local dealers did in the last town I lived in.
not so much now, but the act of transacting on the web over time has been tightened down by web owners, forcing sellers to pay to advertise.
everyone here should be holding your breath. this site format is old. one day, you may wake up and find it changed.
I hope not.
but if you look at the trend web wide...it could happen.
its just a matter of time my favorite website gets carbons' facelift....www.shotgunforums.com.
membership is low, but its an old format. it works.
guys like me on dialup pray old sites don't change. these new ones make it hard for XP and dial up to work. pics just spool. loading times out, its a mess for old systems. and in case youre wanting to jump on me to update....simply put, for the amount of hassle and cost to net a sale on the net, and having to swim thru tons of evil nasty posters comments.........its not worth it.
someday soon, my activity on the net will just go away and I will return to the good ole days of land line phone and letter mail. if someone wants to visit me, just ring the doorbell.
what you see on ts....is proof that on line owners are weeding out little guys in favor for income from vendors.
sad day on the net. be on guard.

It is not simply old systems that are hit. It seems to me most web pages
are now coded and setup by idiots.

Many of them are totally unusable because they have the idea to add
a million things to the page. They have so many pictures, popups,
videos, that all come on automatically, that your computer cannot respond,
because it is doing massive transfers with all that excess horsepucks that
they put up. The guy making up the site, probably does it on a test
site at his home or office, and it does not have all the problems of
bandwidth and transfers, that an actual site has. I have 5 computers,
one is a Mac with 16 Gig, and one is a new HP with windows 10, and 4 gig.
None of my 5 computers can keep up with the total overload that morons
build into web pages now.

No one seems to know the best rule for making web pages, Keep it
as simple as you can. If you do that the site becomes blazingly fast
and lets you do anything instantly. By throwing everything in the world
at you, they just overload you and in the process make it hard for the
user to figure out how to get to where he wants to go. I cancel those
pages everytime that are totally overloaded.

It sort of reminds me of the nitwits that get you on their mail list
and then send you 15 things a day. They just drive you nuts.
A financial site did that to me, I was having a he11 of a time
unsubscribing to all the crap they were sending. I got so pissed
off, I barraged their site with hundreds of emails to them to
go fornicate themselves, and take me off their email list,
after I had unsubscribed about 25 times. I finally got them off my
back, but honest, how can they be that damn crazy, to send
5 things a day, day after day.

It is a perfect example of "Less is More".

Trapshooters.com is not the first site to ditch a successful format
and replace it with something much less desirable.

Shotgunworld, in my opinion, actually would be better if
they did some eliminating. They probably won't though.
Odds are any change they make will be to add more
stuff no one needs. This is just the way websites go.

I use Tapatalk app, and that site looks the same to me from the App on my phone.

I see all the threads over there talking about the change, the app minimized any changes. At least for how I use the app/site.
