Just curious what others pay for a round of trap. Here are some prices around me listed as member/nonmember
Club 1: $3/$6
Club 2: $8/$10
Club 3: $8/$12
Club 4: $8/$12

So far I have shot at Club 1 for obvious reasons but now I am wondering why they are so much less expensive. So how much does a round cost you guys?

$6/member
$7/non member.

Your ‘club#1 is losing money, no matter how you figure costs.

At my home club it is $3.00 per round for members and guests pay the same, plus a daily $5.00 guest fee, so the actual guest price per round depends on how many rounds the guest fee is amortized over.

New County run facility charges $6 for trap and skeet, $8 for 5-stand. If you do not buy a membership, then they also charge a $20 daily range fee (they also have rifle and pistol)

Club members have ERAD (electronic clay target release) and pre-pay targets which are added to the member's ERAD device and deducted as used.

$ 0.00 to $ 99.99 = $5.00 per round
$100.00 to $249.99 = $4.75 per round
$250.00 to $499.99 = $4.50 per round
$500.00 plus = $4.25 per round

The average around here is $5. The club where I mainly shoot is $4 members/$5 non-members.

The local club is $7 non members and $5 members trap or skeet. Very reasonable. Add a dollar for wobble trap or skeet.

In most cases, the club prices targets based on operational expenses. All Volunteer club, target price is less than a payed help club. A high membership fee allows for lower cost shooting. The only true profitability to a clay target club is targets in the air. All other fees reduce participation. Shell and loading component prices/margin, membership or access fees. Payed help effects the bottom line. Either the club encourages participation with prices or encourages cash flow by higher prices. Both work, some go broke and close based on poor management decisions.

Thanks guys for all the posts. Seems most other places are less than the $8 member price on the three bigger clubs in my area (NorCal). There are other clubs down in the $3 range, even less in one case. I guess everything is more expensive in my area (gas, houses, etc.)

As owner of ShotStop, I have had the opportunity to work with dozens of clubs around the country who are faced with serious challenges to their very existence. Even a 1 or 2 trap club needs to have at least $50,000 to $100,000 in savings and up from that for larger clubs. So, if you round are priced so low that you are not adding money to reserves every month, you are eating the seed corn legacy of the members who went before you.

Perhaps location info would be helpful when comparing round pricing.

Property taxes or rent, insurance cost, utility costs, target cost (shipping), etc, vary greatly based on geographic area and are usually factored into pricing of rounds.

Our club charges everybody $5.00 per round for all games; trap, skeet, and 5 stand. The posted price is $6 for non-members, but when the board cut off new memberships, I thought it was unfair. Clay targets run $2.88 per 25 at my last calculation.

My club doesn't allow shooting guests.

A one day membership costs $10. We sell punch cards for rounds. Depending on the number of rounds you pre-buy, it can be as low as $3.75/ round, or as high as $5.
