well, I think I am going to do my part to boost the economy by using the $1400 covid money, if they really approve it, and buy a new shotgun. Question is, which one in the $1400 to $1800 price range if there is such a beast. I am interested in new not used. Sorry, I'm the guy who could walk into a field of 100 used cars, knowing full well only one is a lemon, and walk right up and pick that lemon. So I stick with new.

Forgot to mention, I shoot trap only, been using a semi-auto. I have only been shooting for about a year, but plan on shooting a lot more this coming season.

Everyone will give you their opinion of what they like best. I'm partial to Browning shotguns and shoot a CXT along with other trap guns. The CXT can be found, brand new, at times for $1800.00. If you don't like it, you can always sell it for near that price. As others will tell you, fit is the most important component of shotgun buying. Make sure what you buy feels comfortable when shooting.

Maybe look at a Franchi Instinct o/u 12 ga. I shoot the upgraded Franchi Instinct Sporting { more $$ than you want to spend } 12 ga. with 30" barrels and adjustable comb, weekly at my local range and love the gun. Been through a lot of trial and error with what works and fits me best....this is the one.

You will be hard-pressed to find a decent O/U that is suitable for trap for $1800 new. Even the excellent Browning Citori CX series guns are going for $2000+ these days. If you buy a new gun for less than that, the chances of being disappointed are great. Either add a couple of hundred to your budget (taxes, fees, shipping, etc.) or find a good used Browning or Beretta. If you look hard and long, you might find a decent B-gun for $1800....and you'll be just as proud of it as if it were new. Plus, you can probably sell it at little or no loss when the time comes.

If that's your price limit for a new gun and you're only shooting trap forget the O/U, get the Browning BT 99. If you ever shoot doubles use your semi-auto.

I second the Browning CXT, with the longer barrel option. It is a tad more than your budget, but you will not get nicer wood/bluing/over under in that price range.

Thanks for the input from all. I hadn't thought about a Browning. Thought they were out of my price range. I was thinking about a Beretta Silver Pidgeon, but even those are a bit pricey. I think I'll take your advice and save a bit more to get a better name brand gun.

I got a nice Browning Broadway Superposed Trap for around $1500 a few years ago. Shoots nice and my scores improved.
