Just got back from hunting in SE Colorado.
Took 19 points to draw on this land. 175,000 acres. 10 mile long canyon with about 100 draws in it. Extremely rugged country.
Only saw 2 deer, shot one a nice 3 x4, about 200 pounds.
First day I saw a Hugh 4x4 in a deep, steep draw beded down.
Couldn't get a rest with my bipod due to brush in the way. Went around behind, the trees blocked the deer. I would have to shoot offhand and take a year to get it out.
I hesitated and am still kicking myself. Went back and found it to be only about 100 yard shot! Damn!
Made a nice shot of about 250 yards with my 257 WM. Deer took 2 steps!
Got the rancher and we drove his truck up to the deer a d loaded it up! :D
He had some deer from his property mounted , over 200 pt class mulies! Absolute monsters!
He gets $7500 for those late season hunts. My license was $31 and hunt was free! 8)

Sounds like a great adventure. With a big buck or bull, I'm likely to take the shot(acceptable one) and then worry about packing the meat out. If it's cold you can tie quarters in a tree or leave some scented clothes on the carcass.
Main reason I passed on the big one was fear of wounding it!
