It's that time of year again. Time to show off the turkey/s you took for this year.. Like years past. Post a picture of your bird/s, It's specs, list your equipment, distance and time shot as well as the story.

My first day of the season was Saturday April 25. Got out to my blind around 5:15am. Temp was in the high 30's to low 40"s. Lots of gobbling birds in the trees near me. Heard several fly down but, I did not see any. I did some light calling with no results. Apparently they had some unfinished business as there was a rumble that I could hear a couple of hundred yards away with several birds involved. It got pretty quite after about 20 minutes of the ruckus. About an hour later a had a line of hens pass by on the other side of the creek 20 yards away. I did a little light calling through out the morning about every 30 to 40 minutes. About 15 minutes after my last calling I heard the ole spit drum of a tom. He and at least one hen came in silently. The hen was almost directly behind be at about 12 feet. The tom was about 8 yards away to my back left. I had to rotate to the left to be able to see them. The tom was strutting about while spit drumming My gun laid across my supported by two logs from the blind. I slowly reached for my gun and rotated it towards me. The hen was nervous as I could see her out of the corner of my eye. At that moment my phone dinged from a text since I forgot to put it on vibrate. I froze as the turkeys looked right at me. A few seconds later the tom puffed up and started strutting. As he turned his back to me I turned on my sight and took the safety off. I tried to shoulder my gun but the stock got caught up for a second. Since I was rotated so much I could not should my gun. I put the recoil pad on my bicep and placed my check on the stock the best I could. While holding the gun on a 45 degree angle away from me. I put the dot in the middle of the sight and on the top of his head. The hen was getting pretty ansie and started to move away from me. The tom put his head down as he was going to take off. He then stood straight up all stretched out broadside 8 yards away.I hit the trigger and he dropped like a sack of potatoes.

I used my Benelli SBE turkey model with extra full flush choke tube. The load was Winchester Xtended Range with 2 oz of #4 shot at 1,200 fps in a 3 1/2" shell.
Bird was 23.5 lbs with a 9 1/2" beard with both spurs at 1 3/8".

Great story. I’m sure your bicep will be a bit sore tomorrow but it was well worth it! Nice bird!

Thanks. No pain or markings that day or afterwards. Thought I might be a little tender the next day but, nothing.

That’s good to hear. Adrenaline can overcome lots of things.
Here is my story I posted in another thread. Sorry, I have trouble posting pics.

Thanks oyeme. I had scouted him two weeks before so knew the general area he was in on the property. Studied some aerial photography of the land and found a logging road close to where I thought he’d most probably be. Got in right after daylight and set up. He gobbled about 75 yards behind me and we had a conversation for about 30 minutes before he shut up. Thought I’d heard hens, so I thought he’d left with them . Since he knew where I was , I decided to stay put and see if he’d come back once the hens dumped him. Sure enough, about an hour and a half later he gobbled about 150 yards away I’d say. I yelped to him on a pot call. No answer that I heard. About 10 minutes later he gobbled about 30 yards behind me, again about 15 yards , then came into an open area about 25 yards to my front and saw my single hen decoy. That was a mistake.

Breast it out into cubes. Make sure you remove all the membrane. Stab the cubes repeatedly with fork and marinate for a couple of days in Italian dressing to help tenderize. Skewer it with some veggies and season with your favorite salt and pepper. I do like to put the onion next to the meat. Grill and slather on the Sweet Baby Rays or your favorite sauce.

These are some from 2020. I was able to take 5 in Alabama and two in Ohio. My Wisconsin hunt was canceled due to the death of a friend. Kentucky closed to nonresident turkey hunting this spring. I’m loading up the truck now to head to new York and finish up the season. It’s been a blast as usual, I hate to see it end.
