I have a older (early 1990's) .410 Mossberg 500. I've had it since I was younger, I doubt it has had a box of shells fired through it. It is light and handy so I decided I wanted to take it out this year for early season squirrel for something different. I ran it through some patterning with about a half-dozen different loads, and it patterns great; the patterns are very even and should be quite effective out to 25 yards or so.

Problem is, it patterns about a foot high. I thought about replacing the front "pearl" bead with a TRUGLO Fiber optic or something similar, thinking it may be a little higher, and lower the pattern. Are the TRUGLO's a little higher than a factory bead?

Anyone know the thread pattern on the rib for the bead on the Mossberg 500 .410?

You might check Truglo's website. I think they show a 5-40.

A taller front bead will help a little, but you'll probably still need to "hold under" when shooting at a squirrel. Thankfully, you were smart enough to check the POI of your gun. Many people hunt for years with guns and have no idea where the gun really shoots.
