Hello folks, I'm just getting back into shooting skeet
after a 20+ year absence. Just looking for a real good
place to shoot within a 1-2 hour drive of Columbus, Ohio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Jeff Parker

The Cardinal Shooting Center is close to Columbus. I shoot at Middletown Sportsman Club. Their
Fall Festival is going on this weekend. Great place to shoot skeet, trap, 5-stand and sporting clays. 200 yard rifle range.

Check out Wright Paterson, I think they still shoot skeet

Yeah I've went up there 3 times now, and they have the voice-activated
throwers. They would be fine if they worked, but they don't work about 1/2
the time. My last trip was on Thursday, and by the time I got around to
station 6, it quit working completely. I spoke with one of the workers, and he
said the units were over 10 years old! I just spoke with the manager lady
today about getting my membership $ back or maybe they could get new
throwers, and she acted like they didn't really want to spend the money.
I understand these places not wanting to pay someone to throw birds, but
if not, you definitely need to make sure the electronic throwers work!
When I left there Thursday, a gentleman had just purchased 10 tokens, and
he was having trouble as soon as he started his first round.
OK, I'm off my soapbox now thanks for listening.

Buy your own voice release, or bring someone and use a button.

A club providing a voice release is far from the standard, and if they didn't have one at all (which is 99% of the clubs) you'd be in the same position.

Sucks that they aren't willing to provide a functional voice release, but since it doesn't work treat it as if they didn't even have one and proceed as normal. If it works most of the time but not all of the time, it's usually a battery or microphone issue (dunno what they have for equipment) so maybe try bring both with you and see if that helps?

You'll have a hard time finding another club that provides voice releases for skeet.

If you are looking for a place that throws targets for you when you show up you may be out of luck. I know that knocks out the Wright Patterson suggestion.

Every skeet range I've ever shot at if you don't bring someone with you to pull targets you had better show up when the regulars shoot or bring something like the clay delay. Otherwise, you don't shoot.

Like I said, I don't mind the voice-activated throwers,
as long as they work like they're supposed to!
Blackwing charges $9 for a round of skeet for non-members,
and they are a big well-known facility, so you'd think
they would keep everything working top-notch.

A partially functional voice activated thrower is a little better than no thrower like nearly all other clubs so Blackwing is probably a notch ahead. $9 per round is not unusual for a club that is open to the public where owners expect some profit.

You can show up alone at my public range. If there isn’t a squad to shoot with they will send someone out to pull. No extra charge, I just tip the kid.

All the ones mentioned are good for skeet.

If you want to shoot some world class Sporting Class, at a super nice and friendly club, head north to Hill ‘n Dale in Medina.

Black wing is a very nice facility but I prefer Cardinal . Cardinal does not have voice activated. I usually go with a friend but have clipped the remote on my shell pouch.
