From the metal, no problem. Either acetone or lacquer thinner. As long as you don't mind removing any other finish too, that will also work on a wood stock. Synthetic, I don't know.

I do know acetone and strong lacquer thinner will damage plastic, but as Virginian stated would be worth trying on the metal.

Can you place a hydro dip pattern over an existing one?

We use several different methods for prepping parts/products prior to dipping. Some items may require bead/sand blasting while others may require light sanding or scuffing.
