At what price point (for typical practice loads) do you cut back shooting clay targets or limit recreational weekly practice?
E.G. Top Gun, Estates, Gun Club, Super Target, Challenger, etc.
Even if you reload, use the same threshold.

Your poll begins above my upper limit, I think my max is probably $6.50/box

I figure most are used to paying in the $6-$8 range anyways, and might stretch to pay $8-$9.
I’m seeing $9 estates get gobbled up at the local gun store. Bass Pro is charging $8 for gun clubs.

Same here. $6.50. I just won`t practice. I will just shoot in my local summer league with what I have right now. When that runs out, I will do other summer activities.

Had been paying $52 - $55 per case for 12 and 20 gauges, all my 28 and 410 is strictly reloads.

At the last gun show (2 weeks ago) a pack of 4 boxes was selling for $55. I turned them down.

HAD being the key word. Those days are long gone and won't be coming back.

With increasing cost of ammo and some prescient individuals like oneounceload here saying it won't be back to sub $6/bx; that may be all the catalyst I need to sell my remaining guns. It is not that I cannot afford $8-$10+/bx; it is just that I will not pay that to shoot. I have enough hunting ammo to take me through a few more seasons and I would simply quit after that.

Every one has their own threshold but for me; although shooting is my primary (59 year) hobby, I will find something else to do.

Maybe that will partly be the reason for higher prices existing in the future after supply of raw materials is once again flowing.

That was my thought as well. I'm not interested in shooting myself in the foot by helping the ammo industry reset pricing. Once the revolutionaries and soldier of fortune types have filled their closets this panic nonsense will settle down. If Federal and Fiocchi see people happily plunking down $80/case for top guns and shooting dynamics then i can see no reason why they wouldn't just reset the pricing structure for their whole line.

Also consider our hobby needs to funnel more $$ to the clubs, not the ammo mfrs. Most shooters have a finite amount of $$ to allocate to the game and if the ammo co's take a bigger chunk then less is available for the clubs and THAT will hurt all of us.

Winchester AA and STS probably sold their bulk of inventory when they offered $2 per box rebates. There has always been some demand for high priced shells. There must be some price elasticity to demand, and when shooting slows down, prices will start to go down. Walmart prices will be the bell weather. However Prices will go up based on gas prices for freight as well as petroleum used in manufacturing plastic and the cost of cardboard.

Of course if state or federal excise taxes take hold, that will have an impact.

And gas is rocketing up in price, the makers announced a sizeable wholesale increase earlier, and uncle Joe is threatening to end internet sales and add all sorts of costs ans taxes to the entire firearm/ammo industry.

I never buy factory ammo for clay shooting. I have enough components to last me for at least 2 years. If the prices are still crazy for components after that I'll quit shooting and kayak and fish more.

I`m more along this lines, probably closer to $6.00. I use target shells ( Gun Clubs ) for early season doves, so between COVID, the shortage and prices, I`ve essentially eliminated target shooting to save for the field. Sucks.

THAT, my friends, is all you need for gun control. You don`t have to prohibit or confiscate anything.

I don't shoot that much, a warm up round of skeet and then 100 sporting clay targets, about twice a month. I'll pay $8 - $10 a box to keep that up, if I have to. Any more and I'll shoot less often and/or find something else to do.

Right, and if more folks quit shooting then gun clubs close from loss of business and it becomes a self-fulling prophesy

It's 70 miles one way to the club, and with the increased price of gas and shells plus the target fees, it could become cost prohibitive at some point.

I am amazed that people will quit shooting over $10-$20 per hundred rounds. For me, gas is $10 to/from most clubs, $35-$45 for targets, and (previously) $25 for shells .. $75 per hundred. I’d still shoot at $85, $95, or even $100. Might taper off above that .. so I guess my answer is an additional $25 per hundred. And if you figure I used to could get shells around $6.25 .. then my limit would be $12.50. No, I would not like it .. but I would not quit shooting over 25 cents per target in total.
