Nice ! I have a 590a1 and it’s not drilled and tapped. Don’t know if that helps.

Skar , I apologize, I was thinking of my 870P when I answered. The A1 is definitely drilled and tapped w/ GR sight.

I suggest you hang as much "tactical" junk on it as you can. Big gaudy lights, 3 different color lasers, a red dot, sling, side saddle, collapsible stock, satellite dish, blue tooth and a tactical bottle opener and then have the whole thing painted desert camo (even if the nearest desert is a thousand miles away) because that is what the real "operators" use.
Seriously, keep it light and streamline. The only thing you might need is a light.

Despite being mostly traditionalist, I do like red dots for some of my guns. They work similarly to beads for me.
However, if you're going to run an optic, recognize that the only ones worth putting on your gun will cost as much as said gun. I've had good luck with Trijicon RMRs, but not so much with cheap ($50-100) basic red dots. YMMV.

1) gun is drilled and tapped 2) I ordered a Streamlight 69600 TL-Racker ( new forearm with built in light ) 3) the front bead threads were to long and went through barrel wall and stuck out . Easy fix took off and filed down flush with ID of barrel and used blue Loctite 4) I still want a uncle Mike stock sleeve shell holder or other brand (Slip over )
And that should do it . Funny i’m used to my 32” Beretta 694 O/U thing seems short .

Instead of a sleeve shell holder, I would get an Esstac or SOE velcro shell carrier. I never had good luck with the slip on shell holders when I first started shooting. They felt like crap on my cheek and they don't stay in place. I made my own but modeled them after those two brands. Right now, I'm testing the Ncstar shell holder on my 870 tactical and 930 SPX. It can be configured as a 4 or a 6 round carrier and I like it so far. Stays in place, no issues with the shells falling out or even moving. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Side-Saddle-12 ... SwemdeggsS

I actually would pattern it first before adding the red dot. It may not be necessary but I use a red dot on my 500 (and used one on my 590 before I traded it) because the shot always seemed to pattern way high when I aimed with the bead. The added height from the rail and the sight lines it up perfectly and it's dead on at the typical distances I shoot (7-10 yards). The problem it creates though is that I can't get the same comfortable cheek weld anymore. I have to either float my cheek slightly off of the stock, use my chin, or add a cheek riser. I could get a skalarworks mount that puts it flush with the receiver and uses an RMR pattern cut but the mount is $120 plus whatever you spend on the sight and I'd still have the issue of the barrel patterning high.

My experience with shell carriers is that they off balance the gun. It feels like it wants to roll over on its side. They also make it much wider. Though extra shells on the stock are less obtrusive than than on the receiver. Being that most defensive shootings are solved with just three or four shots, a tactical reload is highly unlikely after firing 7 shots at home invaders. Real criminals tend to scatter like chickens when being shot at.

My 590 requires the sight to be adjusted so high to hit the target the sight becomes a bit unstable. So, I had to put some shims under the sight to be able to adjust it down a bit.
