I saw the posts about the red front bead and the raised vent rib, but do all these new ones have the Franchi I-12 bolt too??

I want the best M2000 available, how many generations are there?? Which one should I look for?? Thanks

The new generation has the I-12 action.

The first generation was a rather crude model, but rugged, didn't fit me so I gave it to my son.

The second generation was much better and quite similar to the current model quality wise.

The new design has the I-12 action, ramped rib, and high viz front sight. It is a less expensive version of the I-12.

I have never experienced any problems with cycling, jamming, etc. with any of these guns. I use one regularly and am happy with them.

Sooo, these newer ones with the raised rib and the red fibre-optics are the ones with the Franchi I-12 action?? These are thought to be more reliable than the white bead and flat ribbed ones?? Thanks

Yes, in fact, when Gun Tests Magazine comparison tested the I-12 and the 2000, the 2000 was their pick. The I-12 had jamming problems and the bolt charge handle on the I-12 kept jumping out.

They have the identical actions and occasionally some onwers have the same problem with the 2000. The fix is to send the bolt to Customer Service and they will replace the retainer plunger and the retainer spring. It is rare but I have read of a few 2000s that acted like the I-12. Since they are identical, I expect they would have the same problems. Fortunately, few people have any problems with either.

Ah, another possible difference between 2nd and 3rd generation, (not exactly a tell-at-a-glance characteristic, though) is that the sling stud at the end of the mag cap is held on by a nut on a 3rd gen gun but held on by a clip on a 2nd gen gun...I think. It might also just be a difference between a camo gun and a blued gun (they didn't have a 3rd gen camo gun at the shop I was at yesterday for me to compare) but I suspect that's not the case.

Griz, as usual, you look for the things we don't. You are exactly right. The 3rd generation swivel is held on with a nut just like the I-12. I just pulled mine out and looked. It is a camo. In fact, all my 2000s are camo. The only difference in the I-12 and the 2000 is mainly exterior. It is a prettied up 2000. Same Vursan action. Same Beretta barrel. Different stock and the receiver has a different exterior decoration. 2000 assembled in Turkey, I-12 in Italy.

I am happy with mine. Break them in by the book and good to go.
