What can I say, with all the hype on Jim's tubes I had to try a couple myself. Will shoot them on the course tomorrow but did get a couple of patterns shot just for my own couriosity. U1 miked .004 and U2 miked .010 in my gun. Compared them to a couple of Angleport choke tubes that miked .005 and .010. Shot from factory choked K80 30" barrels. Shells were some Noblesport 3 dram 1 1/8oz #7 1/2 Sporting loads shot at 25 yards. There is some difference in the patterns, but is there a big enough difference to warrent new tubes. What do you all think. Like I said I'll give them a try tomorrow and we'll see how they perform at other distances. Comparison pictures are below. I'll try to pattern some different loads at a later date.

BigGabe,

Thanks for posting the pics. Any chance that you could locate the center of each pattern and then count the number of pellets in the 10" diameter center, and also in the 10" to 20" donut?

From the pictures, it appears that the U1 and U2 have a slightly better (more uniform) pattern than their counterparts, but the difference doesn't appear to be huge.

Thanks again for the pics.

If you haven't, do play around with different shells. There is no rule of finding out what, but certain shells will shoot better, just have to find out with your gun. Takes time, but I shoot all factory in registered shoots, and I'll go with good patterns..

Ruddyduck, Holes in paper don't show shot string!!!
Terry, you crack me up !!

What you say is very true but this whole discussion has been about patterning
not shot string length and length uniformity.

As far as these two patterning pictures the U1 looks more uniform that the 0.005"
and the U2 looks less uniform.

These are just my observations from a 2D picture, maybe someone can can a highspeed
camera and we can check out the shot string!

These (The Muller chokes) might be the one of the biggest improvement to shotgun shooting in this century.

A couple of random thoughts pop in my mind when I look at the big picture.

-Why do many of the "Top Guns" shoot fixed chokes?

-How many people just but these chokes and look for the "Magic Fix"
or how many pattern all there loads to find the Holy Grail....the perfect load!

- Why has there been a big push go to longer barrels to get MORE weight out furthur
then we find a need to create lighter chokes to reduce the weight on the heavier barrels? Hmmmm?

- Recently there were some shooting glasses that hit the market that were the bestest, greatest thing out there scince the slice of toast! They are over priced but endorsed by some big names. I think they solved every problem a shooter could have including ED!!

I believe you get some good equipment, good gun fit and learn some solid shooting skills you will reach your shooting goals.
The amount of birds I miss ( Way too Many to mention!) I can not blame on pattern density (2D or 3D) or pattern length!!

Just my two bits.

Happy Easter and good shooting to all!
