Last year I started competition pistol shooting. Great time. I take it pretty seriously in terms of personal classification, etc., but it's truly a competition with myself. I use one firearm (M&P 9L with Apex goodies and f/o front sight with Warren tactical rear) and reload with a Dillon and practice regularly for my personal goals.

A few months ago I started backyard clay shooting. Absolutely no desire to compete. No desire to upland hunt. I just wanted a shotgun without straying into the tacticool or home defense world. Shooting cheapy Walmart 1oz Federal. Not reloading because the box of 25 is $4.80. I have a auto thrower, and my friends have a great time. I use a Beretta 390 12g. It fits. Inexpensive. Reliable. Makes me feel like a championship shooter some days and a day-1 newbie the others.

Here's the dilemma. I have been hankering for this Cynergy 20g from CDNN. It fits. I want a 20g. I want a o/u for its simplicity and styling and low weight. But I don't need it. Compared to my one-gun "serious hobby" of IDPA and USPSA I can't justify spending $1200-ish for a leisurely part-time hobby shotgun when my Beretta 390 does it all.

Money is not an issue but I am frugal and overanalyze and need return on investment justification. So my question is: is this a case of upgrade-itis and how many of you backyard clay busters wish that extra shotgun would not have been bought?

My name is John and I'm addicted to shotguns.
One shotgun may be enough, two may be too many but three's not nearly enough.
If I could find a way to swing it I'd buy a K80 in a heartbeat and a DT10 and a Kolar and a ,,,,,
I need a meeting, think I'll log onto Gun Broker, maybe I'll find just one more.

Well, I don't shoot competitvly, I don't "play" to better myself at the sport. I just do it because it is fun. Yet I now own a quartet of lead pellet delivery devices. I use them enough to justify a progressive reloader even. If I score a 10 or a 100 I don't really care because I'm doing it for the fun.

As for pistols, I understand some love it. I have a Neos, and am not half bad with it. But I found that putting holes in a paper target repeatedly to grow tiresome compared to the always fresh challenge of a flying clay. That is what hooked me. You never know, you may find that getting that Cynergy will lead you into the clay games further.

Yes, you have upgrade-itis and it is like herpes. It may go away for awhile but always comes back. Unlike herpes new shotguns are fun! Go for it. If you get buyer's remorse or see something more appealing just trade up! And there is no such thing as an "extra shotgun". EG {hs#

Yamalink,
I started shooting a year ago, bought and sold two Mossburgs, got started shooting skeet seriously and bought guns in 3 gauges....then I tripped over a really good deal on a Beretta 682 tube set....aah, "I'm finally finished", I thought. Now a Krieghoff Model 32 showed up on the doorstep looking for a good home. Nah, I'm not addicted...

BTW, Hello John, my name is Joe and I'm addicted.

PS - Ylink, buy the Cynergy it's a great gun...but be careful, it's what got me on the road to ....

Soooooo you're all saying it's okay. Glad to read you're all enablers! Been staring at the CDNN catalog for an hour reassessing my needs in this new firearm. All comes with $100 rebate.

Cynergy Field Satin Walnut Stock in 20 gauge, 26 or 28 inch: $1299 before rebate.

Cynergy Sporting Walnut (believe it's a 20g), 30 or 32 inch, two extra triggers and hi-viz sight. $1499 BR.

Cynergy Feather Lightweight 12g (claimed 6lb 10oz), $1399 (but thinking that'd kill me all day at the range although I read on this forum a Feather owner saying it recoiled less than his Beretta 391....)

Still leaning toward the CFSWS in 20/28. It'd complement my heavy Beretta 390 12g.

Kind of. I was not a recreational shooter but a field shooter to start. I began with a Winchester pump and have since bought and sold 7 more shotguns. I now have 4 and feel fairly stable. I too am a frugal and sensible person but I can afford more than I usually have.
I too bought the CDNN Cynergy about 2 months ago. Here is why. When I called there were only 20 or so of he 20 gauge 28 inch left. I went to Cabelas and talked to the guy in the gun library, that gun is worth about what I paid (less the $100 rebate from Browning). I figured I can shoot it for a while and if I decide I don't want it or don't need it I can take it to Cabelas and just sell it for what I paid or pretty close.
BTW so far I love this gun. Soft shooting, light to carry and very nicely made. Probably going to be handing this one down to my son 40 years from now.

it's a disease that starts slowly but soon develops into a full blown addiction where's there's no cure at all. I'm sorry to tell you this but it's already to late for you. You may think you're going to stop with the Cynergy but like the rest of us you'll soon hear the siren song of the next deal. Be aware that once you think you have "enough" shotguns you will start to consider just how much you "need" more and different firearms. Oh and WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!

Love my 20g Satin Field Classic. The Cynergy Club rebate, besides the $100. includes a very nice collection of cap, soft case, hard case and field bag...

Funny you mention this. I just came off a swanky cruise around Europe. Not my idea, hers. Oh the $$$ remorse from that. And as for jewelry, yes, we are shopping for a ring now. And a new house. Man, do you have a bug in my phone??

You know what, a shotgun is dirt cheap compared to the aforementioned, and is actually a deal.

What else you gonna spend your money on?

Cars? House? Furniture? College? Retirement? Cruises? Jewelry? :?:

Get your priorities straight! Buy the gun!!!!

I liked one of the replies in the how many is enough thread. Something about how the wife would waste the money on frivolous thing like food or a new mattress for the bed. Its too true. Look at it this way, your gun has more value than her jewelry. Home defense, food getter, zombie killer, hobby, a sport, a way to get you out of her hair, and it will hold it's value. I think that covers it all. What will her new curtains do? Get dusty and need cleaning.

Or you can man up and tell her your getting a gun, your the damn man of the house, and she needs to get back in the kitchen! Let us know how that works out for ya :D

I got the cynergy sporting 12ga 30"barrels and just about everyone on the college trap and skeet team let mr reword that everyone on the trap and sleet team that could tell they were testing out an over under and they have to slide the lever on top to break open the gun said its got very little recoil and one guy that's shoots a Vinci 12ga said it's probably the lightest recoiling gun he's ever tried out. Id test it out find someone that'll let you shoot it a round

Haha, I know exactly how that'd work out for me. We're not married yet, popping the question soon. But she knows I'm a firearm enthusiast and shop around/overanalyze/post threads til the cows come home.

Her father shoots on a league only cuz his boss is a hardcore shooter. He hates it. She says I should do it as a family bonding thing. But she also encouraged the Beretta semi purchase so I have no idea how to pass off an o/u. She's smart and would look up the rules and etiquette, so telling her "semi autos are illegal and I could get dad banned if he brings me with that gun" won't fly.

If you have to ask permission to buy something and you aren't even married yet, I pity you. I'd be looking for a new relationship.

I am just a field / recreational clay shooter over here in the (not very) sunny UK. I have a Beretta 687, which meets all my needs and is a fine gun to boot.

Why has a nice English side by side appeared in my cabinet?? Why??

Because the bug is very contagious. You can get it from this forum! Be careful before they take you away... Noooooooooooo!! :D

Very nice Yama! That's the kind of clear thinking analysis that we need more of. I have never regretted a shotgun purchase, and I have lots of experience.
