Last year I started competition pistol shooting. Great time. I take it pretty seriously in terms of personal classification, etc., but it's truly a competition with myself. I use one firearm (M&P 9L with Apex goodies and f/o front sight with Warren tactical rear) and reload with a Dillon and practice regularly for my personal goals.
A few months ago I started backyard clay shooting. Absolutely no desire to compete. No desire to upland hunt. I just wanted a shotgun without straying into the tacticool or home defense world. Shooting cheapy Walmart 1oz Federal. Not reloading because the box of 25 is $4.80. I have a auto thrower, and my friends have a great time. I use a Beretta 390 12g. It fits. Inexpensive. Reliable. Makes me feel like a championship shooter some days and a day-1 newbie the others.
Here's the dilemma. I have been hankering for this Cynergy 20g from CDNN. It fits. I want a 20g. I want a o/u for its simplicity and styling and low weight. But I don't need it. Compared to my one-gun "serious hobby" of IDPA and USPSA I can't justify spending $1200-ish for a leisurely part-time hobby shotgun when my Beretta 390 does it all.
Money is not an issue but I am frugal and overanalyze and need return on investment justification. So my question is: is this a case of upgrade-itis and how many of you backyard clay busters wish that extra shotgun would not have been bought?
