Well, I heard some Ross geese up high over the house a few minutes ago heading north/northwest, first ones I have heard in a few weeks. Mother natures way of telling me they will be back in only 9 months or so. I did change out my choke a few minutes ago and will be testing the "turkey/coyote" in the VERSA MAX with various turkey loads this weekend I hope.
You guys got anything you want me to shoot in it to try and fowl it up? Just let me know!
JM

TuJays, thanks for the great information about the Versa Max. I won a black synthetic one at our local Delta Waterfowl banquet last night and have been busily reading as much as I can about it since then. Until finding your review I was forced to read opinions from those who had not used the guns, or marketing material from Remington. The few magazine reviews I found were from back when the gun was first released so I took them with a grain of salt. My big concerns were to hear from someone who had used the gun through a hunting season in real conditions that we deal with as waterfowlers. Your review, along with comments from others helped me a lot. I was looking at whether to keep this gun or trade it with the dealer who provided it to the banquet for some other gun. I have a Beretta ES100 Pintail now, which I still like a lot, but after reading your information I have decided to keep the VM and put it through it's paces!

Thanks again for the objective info and review and the time you put in. Much appreciated!

mbitzegaio congrats on the win!
As you put your new Versa Max through its paces, please also keep us informed.
The more guns that are getting independently reviewed, the better.
I am really rooting for Remington to make the Versa Max an absolute winner.

Thanks guys! First time winning anything at the banquet...been attending many years now. I was pretty excited. This was by far the nicest gun they have had as a raffle prize in the years I have been going.

I will post updates once it is warm enough to get out and shoot a little! Thanks again for all the good information.

Good stuff and congrats on the win mbitzegaio. That's the model I've been fondeling and debating about purchasing. I darn near took it home with me again yesterday...
I believe my dealer is getting tired of me hounding him to let me demo it for a weekend...

Just to add...TuJays, any chance you could run some light (1 oz) 7 1/2 and/or 8 target loads thru it and provide your feedback?

I hope your luck holds out for the rest of your days here on earth, congratulations!
Make sure to give the gun a good cleaning before shooting. Check the POI to make sure it is dead on, have fun, and be safe {hs#

Sledman....somewhere back on pages early in this thread i ran everything from 7/8" reduced loads through 1 1/8" loads and it handles everything without a hitch. That same evening I let the local high school trap team shoot it.....they ran ever cheap brand of walmart special 1 oz of #8 shot through it without any problems, including the jam prone universals. The gun was probably fired around 600 times that afternoon and the only issue I encountered was I only had one gun to go around.
However if you insist I will gladly shoot some more....I do have a large supple of Federals burning a hole in my pocket

OK, great to hear that TuJays, I somehow missed that page. Two thumbs up and thanks for letting me know.
NO problem....just for good measure I took it to the range today. I had 8 members of our high school trap team meet me there, 2 of them are brand new members and 1 is a cute young lady that will humble most men when it comes to trap. So we had some instruction time, practice, and then we shot the Versa Max.
All total they fired 200 rounds of cheap Winchester Universals 1 oz of #8, 100 rounds of Federal Heavy Field 1 1/8 oz and 100 rounds of Remington Game Loads 1 oz #8 thru the modified choke.
NO malfunctions and everyone was amazed at the light recoil, so I had them all load up and fire in order a 2 3/4" Universal 1 oz of #8, a 3" Federal Premium 2 oz #4, and a 3 1/2" Federal Premium 2 1/4 oz #6 all as fast as they wished downrange. The gun did not malfunction and the recoil of the heavy 3" & 3 1/2" did not cause anyone pain...even the young lady. Then we picked up hulls in the rain and called it a day.
I can assure all who read this that the Versa max will shoot anything 12 gauge you stick in it, in any order, every time.
I spent to much time with the kids to pattern the turkey loads, but I will get to that soon.

Just to be certain everyone understands my last comments regarding recoil and the 7 young men and 1 young lady shooting this afternoon regarding their guns. We are a 5A school that allows us to have a trap team, but we get little financial support so each youth is required to supply their own firearms and ammunition....yes we have benefactors but need more!
Of the group there this afternoon here was the rundown of weapons.
One new boy did not have a gun.
Two have 12 gauge Mossberg pumps.
One has his dads/grandpas 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge.
One has a 870 express 12 gauge.
One has a very nice benelli montefeltro in 12 gauge.
One has a Savage single shot 20 gauge.
And Kati has a 1187 20 gauge.

At there disposal from my collection is 3 - 870 wingmasters, 3 - 1100's, 2 Browning Citori's, and 2 shot to hell and gone Stoegers. Our biggest problem is keeping everyone in shells but we manage!
So these are the guns that they had to compare recoil with the Versa Max.
