I looked at 3 camo Versa Max's yesterday and all 3 had the white under the vent rib as well.........kinda dissapointing, is this like that on every ones ? ?kuffs06 said:HI guys, first off I must say I love the gun...I'm heading out to the club on Wednesday for trap and cant wait to see the difference compaired to the 1187.
Question I have to anyone with a Versamax! How is the finish? I noticed mine has areas under the rib and corners were it looks white...as if the camo didn't take! I must say, I'm a little dissappointed!

If I take my plug out I can get three 3" loads into magazine and if I take the spring retainer out and put the cap back on another round fits. Could some body that can step out the backdoor and fire a shot tell me if the last round in the mag has enough force to trip the action and load. If it does I can put 4 in the mag float one and have one in the chamber for 6 shots no need for a mag extension.
Second Question. What size shot do you use for snow geese? Through which choke? For honkers I use 2 BBs followed by a T. From what I've heard snow geese are smaller but shots tend to be longer.
Thanks for starting this thread and being the in the field report that got me to buy one. It's not perfect, like you have pointed out but the flaws are minor.

It is for certain a #6 screw, but the dang thing is so darn short I am not 100% certain of the threads, but am 90% sure it is 40.....as nothing I have seen that short is 6-32 and it does not appear "fine" enough to be a 6-48, but could be as my eyes ain't what they used to be!StealthyBlagga said:Can someone confirm the thread size/pitch for the front bead?

Personally, I wish they would take the "nifty" green case and stick it where the sun does not shine, decrease the cost of the gun by at least $100.00 and call it good. I have not used mine since i unpacked the gun.7Iron said:One gripe I have relates to the nifty green factory case the gun comes in. I was looking forward to using it to transport my shotgun when traveling for hunts. HOWEVER, I am 6'3" and as soon as you add any LOP to the stock, the receiver portion of the gun no longer fits in the case. All I hear from Remmy customer service is "yeah, that's an issue." Hurumph.
Bushguy & All,Bushguy said:Hi folks. I've been researching an upcoming autoloader purchase for the better part of a year, after which the 'new' versamax is a solid front runner in a long list of great options. As my wife would quickly tell you I tend to go a little overboard when it comes to researching purchases of this nature. As such, I'm fairly confident I've read everything on the web relating to this firearm. I'm sure it will come as little surprise that this thread and those who have contributed to it represent the single most informative source available - by far. So, credit where credit is due to TuJays and the like.
Given that you guys are the experts (at least in my eyes) I have come to you with the few remaining questions my research has failed to answer re the versamax. If you manage to answer these questions you will be the first to do so - online anyway.
So here we go. I'm looking for this gun to handle anything from clays to black bears and EVERYTHING in between so barrel options are very important to me. You guys have brushed on this topic (I've read all 48 pages - multiple times) and i know that there is more than likely a slug barrel of some description (length, rifling, sights, style all TBD) in the works for this fall and while I'm willing to wait and see I'm wondering what one could do with the options already confirmed by Remington. Specifically - could I buy a MODB version in 28", then purchase "accessory" barrels from the Tactical (22" - turkey) and the R12 (18" rifle sight - big game) - will they fit. I know the tactical is rumoured to not take 3.5" but the R12 specs say it can - odd. I know the R12 hasnt been mentioned as of yet here - likely because its not currently available outside military/enforcement circles but it IS a versamax platform. I know you raised the question TuJays re barrel swapping with the tactical but i dont think you got an answer. I think its been available in the states for a while now so am wondering if one of you knowledgeable folks might have put hands on one or be able to in order to answer the question. I'm relatively certain that the receivers are all the same but dont know how the barrels of these other models will mate with 'our' field forearms. Also wonder about the 3" "limit" on the tactical. At the very least one would think these other barrel offerings would be a quick/cheap starting point for them when it comes to accessories for 'our' guns. Oh, and I know the R12 'slug barrel' isnt likely rifled but thats fine with me as I'll be shooting foster style slugs out of whatever barrel I get anyway - sabots are too expensive for the amount I intend to shoot and the accuracy difference is of little consequence in the bush on running game IMHO.
In any event, I appologize for the length of my first post and look forward to your thoughts on my question re barrel options for the versamax.

Your Welcome Bushguy!Bushguy said:Thanks very much TuJays!
Not at all unexpected, but good to hear someone with some knowledge (possibly even inside) on the topic confirm my suspicions. Can't wait to see these and other accessories start rolling out to make this already great firearm even better. Heres hoping that other fella gets his 26" MODB and you get your wood 20, or 16... though I suspect you'll be waiting longer than ths fall. Thanks again.
Where can they be had for under $1000.......... ? ?TuJays said:Thanks JT.......yayaya blaming me to get out of hot water with the bride {hs#arduckhunter said:TuJays,
I have been following this board for a long time now. Had my wife a little mad since I would read this and not pay attention to her. The joys of looking for a new gun. I had a question for anyone really. I have an opportunity to pick up a brand new in the box Black Synthetic VersaMax a friend one at a banquet for about $1000. Would it be worth the difference to have it dipped (can get that done for ~$200) and get the different choke tubes or is there more than just some cosmetics that would make the Waterfowl edition better. I am an avid duck hunter and hunt all over AR, MO, and wherever I can. I will hunt in cold wet weather and am looking at doing some spring turkey hunting for the first time. Any input would be great.
Again. Thanks for such a great source to help me decide on what gun to get.

Personally I would leave it black and hunt the heck out of it with the 5 chokes provided, offer him $900.00 cash and use the rest to buy more ammo. Your friend will make $880.00 on a $20.00 game of chance and you will have a fine shotgun. Just be certain to do a transfer thru your local FFL, then go online to Remington and register it for warranty purposes in your name.
Why, you ask?
Camo is only for us, the ducks don't care. Besides the black version is just as durable as the camo one from what i have witnessed.
The 5 chokes are flush instead of 4 extended, but I guarantee that out of those 5 you will be able to produce excellent patterns with steel shot, beside you can buy more chokes later. And this gives you more options out of the box for clay games and small game like doves.
And finally cost, new Black VM's can be found for under $1000.00 on retailer shelf's.
Welcome to SGW by the way![]()
