After seeing JSWR450's post showing the results of using scratchX on his fine piece of wood I decided to polish my Canvasback. I am pleased with the results (although my wood is nothing like JAWR450's) I took pictures of the before and after for everyone to see. The pictures show how the wood changed from a flat/satin finish to a semi gloss/gloss finish. The pictures make it look like the wood tone lightened ALOT but I think that is a photo graphic error. The wood does look brighter (I think that is a good way to describe it) but it is not significantly lighter or darker than it was before I polished it.
Process: long story made short. I rubbed on the scratchX with a clean flannel cloth (if I were to do it over again I would use terry cloth or microfiber) and buffed with a clean flannel. Working my way around the stock in sections, avoiding the checkering and metal parts. When I had done the whole stock I reapplied/buffed a few areas that looked like it needed it. I finished with a nice application of Hayward's feed n wax (the orange oil bees wax carnauba wax stuff). After letting the Howard's sit on the wood about 10 minutes I wiped it off with the same cloth I applied with and buffed with a clean cloth (old thermal shirt rags).
