I've been using My "Jons Exclusive" Cz 410 sxs quite a bit .Fits me very well, shoots great. It is choked Imp Cyl/Mod. I want to hunt some Federal wildlife areas but they require steel shot.I was wondering since it is a 410 small barrel diameter how steel would do out of the Mod. barrel.I was using a Tristar 410 O/U with choke tubes(skeet and Imp) Just really want to use the sxs now instead. I have been using #7 shot .I'm shooting rabbits the Beagles circle back to me.Any input from all you guys would be helpful.I'm just wondering about the shot bridging in the Mod barrel.I'm not worried about my patterns, just small barrel being able to handle it.

First, I'm not sure about steel shot through a .410, either. It would seem that the amount of constriction is what would be controlling, and the smaller the shot, the better. I'd probably rather use some other non-toxic shot than steel, if there's something else available out there. It'd be expensive, but, used for hunting, it's only a small part of the expense.

This is purely an opinion and not advice......Sorry for the "legal disclaimer".

Huglu barrels are safe for steel. But naturally you have to be careful about the constriction of the chokes.

If it were me, I'd test pattern the gun on a board with lead shot to verify that the gun is in fact choked IC/M and if it is in fact shooting IC/M or at least close then I would have no worries shooting steel through it.

If a test pattern with lead shot showed that the gun was in fact shooting Full and Fuller (unlikely IMO) then I would hesitate to shoot steel through it.

Just a side note question. I'm looking for a 410 with interchangeable chokes and came up with the Tri-Star. What are your thoughts on that o/u?
