Please keep in mind that often times barrels have been swapped on many guns so the stars may not line up between what Remington tells you, the serial number decode tells you, and the barrel decode tells you!
And some barrels do not have the date code on them at all.

All 1999, 2000, & 2001 models did not have a barrel code on the left side of the barrel..... Instead Remington put it on the end flap of the box it came in.

Yep. I have a NIB 26" skeet barrel I picked up at a gun show a couple years ago. No date code. Also, two 1100 plain full choke barrels for 28 and .410 respectively that I got back when Shotgun News was the eBay of the day, both NIB. No date codes. The 28-gauge barrel had a shallow extractor cut that didn't extend into the rim cavity. Must be why they were so cheap.

TuJays,

Does the above chart not apply to the Model 1100 - LH? My left hand Model 1100 - LH was purchased new by my parents and given to me for Christmas 1976, the serial number is L993394V. There is no barrel date code on the original barrel. Just curious, I have always assumed the gun was manufactured sometime in '76.

A little off topic, the Left Hand 1100's were hard to find back then. My parents had been looking for at least four years before they finally found the one they bought. No Remington dealers would order one, they just flat out refused. The good old days?

Back then Green Top in Ashland, VA used to stock LH versions, and they were/are a distributor as well as a retailer. Pretty poor dealers who wouldn't order one. Every few years Remington will do a run of left handed guns to look out for the southpaws. Serial number ranges and barrel codes are the same.

Yes, it applies.
L prefix was used starting in 1968 and ran until M was started sometime in 1974. it would not be unusual for a new in the box left hand model to be several years old before it was purchased.

That makes plenty of sense. Thank you for the reply.

Sorry for adding on to this old thread, but I want to ask.

I bought an 1100 yesterday and think I have an earlier gun. The serial number is 2365**V. This appears to mean pre-1968. It has a 28" VR barrel with fixed modified choke.

Honestly, I know the gun's been shot but not much. Other than the wear line on the carrier and a faint circle around the firing pin hole, this gun looks brand new. Perfect blue and perfect wood.

Can this be narrowed to a more specific year?

That's fantastic! This gun looks like it was someone's safe queen before I bought it. Now it will be murder in the dove field. Shoots like a dream and looks just as good.

Oops. I think I goofed if you have two asterisks for two deleted numbers. (took my contacts out) Does it have a barrel code? Offhand just off the serial number (6 digits) I would guess early 1965.

Ah. That makes sense. I believe the barrel code is HMRE, if I am reading it correctly.

I believe it is original. Gun was great. Nice and easy to shoot. Never a hangup with AA's or even Winchester universals. I had a hard time believing that-have had bad luck with those in other guns recently.
