Hey all, I've been poking around this site for a bit and realized the wealth of knowledge floating around here so I figured I'd try my luck and see if someone could help me out with a few things.
I just picked up an old Stevens 520 pump the other day and really wanted to find the age of it and maybe an approximate value. I know its not too valuable with the normal wear of an old gun so I figured around 150 + or -?
The guy I bought it from had never fired it and the previous owner before him hadn't in 25 yrs, so its been sitting for around 35-40yrs without being touched. But it still cycles real smooth and the action was well oiled when I broke it down. I was going to try and take it out for some trap later this week and wanted to know what type of loads I should be putting through it. With the gun most likely being 80+ yrs old I'd assume steel shot would be out of the question but I've heard varying input on the subject. I don't know much about ammo but I'm hoping suitable rounds for this gun wont be much more expensive, I'm just a poor college student
. Anyways thanks in advance for any input, I appreciate it.
Specs:
Its labeled Ranger on the left side of the receiver with a # 6 enclosed in a circle stamped on the lower left. The barrel has a # 5 stamped the same way with it labeled as a full choke underneath and a serial number of 94834. It also has a weird crescent moon type stamp on the bottom of the magazine. I'd post a picture but my camera just died on me, I'll try to get something up later.
