I wasn't aware of any aftermarket Kolar chokes until yesterday when a friend sent me a 4th of July add for Comp-N-Choke. It seems they make chokes for .735, .740, and .750 bore Kolars.

Has anyone tried these? I'm not necessarily concerned with patterning, but more with if they fit right.

I have the genuine Kolar chokes I need for competition, but this is a tempting deal at $47 versus $140 for the Kolar chokes.

STEEL vs. Ti !!!!

The Comp-N-Chokes are very good but in an O/U you get lots of fouling between the ported tubes and I have seen chunks of wad/plastic fly around while shooting them. I only shoot them in a semi-auto. I stay away from anything ported in an O/U.

The Ti chokes that came w/ my Kolar work great , when I do my part.

I found the Kolar manufactured extended Ti chokes that are supplied with their new Max-lite sporting/skeet/trap guns, are very good and pattern as good as any aftermarket chokes. I did find that Muller chokes, made for the new 740 bore barrels, seem to be a little less "hot core" and I do use them but the Ti Kolar chokes are fine as well.

I like my steel extended chokes on my 12 ga Kolar because they are labeled with Bore and Constriction. I bought a couple Ti chokes, and now I can't help but wonder if the IC is for a 740, or a 735 bore, as they are only marked IC, Mod, Etc.

muller told me I could use his 740 chokes in my 735...... So I'm curious if Kolar is doing the same thing??

Most likely, they haven't offered the 735 bore for quite a few years now, and seriously doubt they are making their brand new titanium chokes for that bore since it is a very small market. In fact, besides yours, I've only heard of one or two other 735s out there, I'm sure there are more, but probably not too many.

The last time I ordered chokes for my .735 from Kolar, they told me they were discontinuing the steel chokes and only offering .735 chokes in titanium.

would I be able to tell by measuring the inside diameter of the back end of the choke tube?
The choke entrance should be larger than the bore. I just measured my Kolar OEM stainless .735 IC choke entrance. It's .741 on the entrance and .725 on the exit. Looks to be about .005 extra on the opening and right on at the exit.

My guess would be they are selling 740 chokes and telling/expecting people to subtract .005 from the stated constriction. I can't understand why they would bother offering 735 chokes in a brand new design when they haven't offered the 735 barrels in quite a few years. And especially when they aren't offering the titanium chokes for the 750 bore, which exponentially more popular than the 735.

As an aside, it's been a while since they made their own 12ga chokes anyways. Angleport made the original stainless ones, then the contract when to Comp-N-Choke, who I believe was the last maker of stainless Kolar OEM chokes. The current titanum ones are identical to Extreme's design, just shorter, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were jobbed out to Extreme. Krieghoffs titanium chokes were originally made by Extreme as well, but apparently they are making them on their own now.
