So, I have a 2004 26" barrel 12ga Citori 3" chamber with invector plus chokes. That's all I know about it. I looked up the serial number and got it dated to 2004. But I am trying to understand the difference in citori model numbers.

Can someone break it down, the differences in 425, 525, 625, 725, CX, and mine. my seral is XXXXXMW131. So is mine just a citori? No 425, 725 etc?

First, in all likelihood, you have a field model. Go to the Browning website and look for Citori's. There are three tabs. "Current models", "limited production ", and "out of production ". Read that material and you'll have some of the answer you're looking for. Citori's have been out way too long, with too many variants to begin to type it all from my phone.

Yea, I have been looking at the page. Looks like the 425's to 725's are all fairly expensive. Compared to my field 1300 dollar one I bought used.

The 425, 525, and 625 are all very similar with regard to the working parts. The differences are mainly shape/style of the wood, engraving, etc.

The 725 is MUCH different internally from the others.

The CX is much more similar to the 425, 525, and 625 than it is the 725. Also, the Citoris listed as Hunter models are very similar to the 425, 525, and 625.

So, basically, the 725 is the odd duck in the group. All the others (except for another odd duck called the Cynergy) are very similar.

No, they aren't all the same. Apparently, Browning just elected to quit identifying the variants with a 3-digit code.
Go to the Browning website and look under the "product support " tab. Drill down to the "date your firearm " section. There's a section that describes the 3-digit codes. You'll get an ideaof many of the variants that were produced. This is NOT a complete list however.

From what you describe and from the 2004 catalog - you have a B525 Classic 12M (Magnum) 'Hunter' (invector chokes). It came in Elite Gr III, Prestige Gr V, and Ultimate Gr VI. A 'Hunting' model had conventional fixed chokes.

The catalog lists: (and is DAMN confusing)

Hunting Firearms:
B525's
Classic 12 Hunting (fixed chokes) / Hunter (choke tubes) 24", 26", 28" bbls.
Classic 12 or 20 Magnum in Elite Gr III, Prestige Gr V, and Ultimate Gr VI
Classic Light 12 2-3/4" chambers

425's,
Classic Light (Hunting/Hunter) 20 2-3/4" chambers
Classic Light Elite 28ga and .410
Specials - Privilege in 12M and 20M plus Waterfowl and Special Waterfowl Camo

Hunting and Target Firearms:
GTS 12M Gr I, and Elite

Target Firearms:
Ultra XT, XTR, XTR Midas, XS, XSH,
with Ultra SX subcategories of Sporter, Sporting, Sporting Ported, 20ga Sporting.
Ultra Sporting (fixed chokes) and Sporter (choke tubes) - (available in left-handed model)
Ultra Trap (available in left-handed model)
Ultra Skeet (NOT available in left-handed model)

B525 Sport
Sporter/Sporting 12 & 20 (standard 3" chambers but not available in less than 28" barrels)
(Sporter 12's available in Elite Gr III, Prestige Gr V, and Ultimate Gr VI)
NEW Sporter 20 in Elite Gr III and Prestige
New B525 Trap (2-3/4" chambers

Browning confused the public and themselves with all the designations for a multitude of available options - as Vette Jockey said, the return to '131' code only negated or simplified the product 'code' confusion......not product 'line'.

Look at Brownings parts list. Out of 10 pages of parts One is the common internal parts . The rest of the pages are schematics or various stocks ,forearms and "grade specific parts" ie: top levers ,trigger guards and forearm latches

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. At least I know what it is. Thats damn confusing to say the least.

I wish they would have kept the a code on the serial number to describe these. The thing that sticks out to me is I have an invector choke system with a 26" barrel.

BC11,

So does your gun have Invector or Inv + chokes? It's easy to tell. Just open the action and look at the left side of the barrels monobloc just below the ejectors. It should tell you the choke system and the length of the barrels.

There's nothing wrong with Invector chokes if that's your worry.

You are welcome. I learned a few things myself. I don't know how useful that will be, though. The last Citori I bought was in '93 and I haven't kept-up with the Browning product line, since.
