I have a Remington 1100 .410 shotgun which my husband bought me about 25 years ago.
since the ammo shortage hit, I have found it just about impossible to find any 3 " shot shells. My shotgun has a 3" only marking on the barrel. I have only 6 shells left; they are Winchester Super X high brass game loads. Has anyone here tried to fire 2.5" shell in a semiautomatic .410 ? I think it would either fail to load, or jam if it did load one. My husband has several boxes of 2.5", because he has a Mossberg 500 which will fire okay with those.

You should read this whole thread. It mentions buying a skeet barrel because it has two gas ports instead of just the one port that your barrel has. Then it goes on with the OP trying the short shells himself. I won’t spoil it for you and save the results for you to read.

Thanks, I did not realize this was also discussed in a post from 2006!

I had a 3" 1100 .410. It would barely cycle factory skeet loads.
If you find 2.5" shells, get the fastest velocity you can find.

Another option to consider, 1100's in .410 bore are bringing big bucks on GunBroker, sell yours and buy a Tristar Viper in .28 ga. ammo is kind of pricey but it is available and you will be way ahead after selling your 1100.
