Dave,

Are you running Black and Tan coonhounds with your birddogs? How's that working out? :)

In all seriousness since I lost my wonderful wife of 42 years four years ago a lot of the fun has gone but what the hell can you do? I keep busy, stay involved with my son and his family. Play with my toys and projects. Went to early church and shot a zsa match yesterday, worked on the homestead with my son Saturday. Stay frosty and keep moving.

Pine Creek Dave,
WOW.. beautiful dogs. I saw the setter and thought..."Holy smokes look at the mitts on that girl." Good luck when she grows into those feet. How big do you expect her to be? My last Llewellyn was about 65 lbs. She was a nice slow working dog..

Little Piper (18 months old and only 34 lbs) is VERY fast, but seems to stay within range AND is doing well with her pigeons. I was tempted by a Gordan a few years back, but the timing didn't work out.

Tomorrow, we're going to be hunting a pheasant ranch for our final day in the field. An old friend is field testing a TriStar Bristol in 20 gauge, so we'll have new guns and a young dog.

Good luck with the Pups.

You can start buying rifles.
Yikes, I started down that path a few years back... Buy a rifle... then the tools and dies to reload for it...
Then.. figure out the measurements/reloading to take it from a 1inch gun at 100 yards to a .5" gun at 100 yards..
(My wife always laughs and states.. each group will make a deer dead at 100, so why bother with that?)

That's enough to drive a guy nuts (or nuttier!)

Something to do? Go in with your son to buy 33 acres of rural property that needs to be cleaned up so he and you, if you live long enough, can build on it? Attend a couple shoots a month, reload enough ammo of course to shoot those and rebuild a 25 ft Airstream Caravaner to live in on the previously mentioned property? And did I mention start radiation treatments next month. Keep moving because when you stop moving you die.

This was when it was in wheat. We’ve got power and a shallow well on it now. View attachment 47972
Lovely parcel of land there. You can do a lot with 30+ acres for sure!

My advice: now that you've got all the guns you want/need, and all the ammo for them. The answer is simple:

Maggs01,

Unfortunately the beautiful Ryman Blue Belton pup you saw never made it to 2 years old to grow into her feet. It broke my heart to loose her, to cancer in her stomach. The breeder has promised to replace her in the near future.
Been tough around here lately, loosing her and my close Grouse hunting buddy, Gunny Bowman.

all the best,

Ulysses,
Those Are Black & Tan Grouse Dogs, which George Ryman also raised for his own Grouse & Woodcock hunting, along with his Ryman English Setters. George would only sell his Gordon Grouse dogs to certain sportsman, looking for a particular kind of Gordon Grouse dog. It was a very minor part of his kennel operation, most people never knew he had them. George Ryman did not house any of his Gordon Grouse Dogs with my great Grandfather in Galeton, Pa. I wish he would have, I would have been interested in them long before I acquired the taste for this Great Grouse Dog breed.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

Pine Creek Shadows, our new Gordon Pup, doing well learning her trade. Pine Creek Heston beside her is 14 years old and retired from Grouse hunting now, his hips are pretty much shot.

Pine Creek Penny and one her 890 Grouse, set pointed and retrieved over her 15 year life time. She had the talent to work both Woodcock & Grouse without bumping the Grouse.

Pine Creek Ripper on his show table on the back deck at 764. I acquired this great natural Grouse Dog from a sportsman who tried to use him for FT contests, Ripper hated planted birds, and would only point Wild Grouse & Woodcock. He actually urinated on planted birds.

Very nice looking dogs. (y)

SHOOT WHAT YOU'VE GOT!

We enjoy going on road trips with our shotguns to shoot new clubs; explore new areas.... ok, that's code for eating BBQ. Kansas City, Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Carolina's all have great target clubs and unparalleled BBQ! (Don't want no dogs... I hire great dogs and their handler cheap).

Ventrib,
You may hire great dogs and their handlers in some places, you will never do that with us, we do not guide, never have. We do train sportsman Grouse dogs never at a cheap rate, now on a limited basis, sense my open heart surgery. We do have good BBQ here also, our BBQ Grouse on the Grill is fantastic. All you have to due is shoot the Grouse while flying, and thank God for the Grouse he has provided, to eat dinner with us.

all the best,

Life got a little exciting for me yesterday. Went to Scheels to handle Cynergy CX…again, when lo and behold I came across a 20 gauge 1975 Remington Wingmaster. 28” barrel fixed full choke marked $249. I couldn’t believe it. The checkout gal said if I opened a Scheels credit card I would get $70 off of the gun. I couldn’t believe I walked out of there with that gun for $179. I’m just thrilled since I sold my 20 gauge lightweight magnum 8 years ago to buy something else.
