I have a couple Liberty safes for my guns however, the more clay sports I shoot, the more I seem to be acquiring 30" 32" 34" shotguns. They don't seem to fit as nicely in my current Liberty safe and are a pain to get in with how the shelves are constructed and placed. What are the go to gun safes for longer trap and sporting clays guns that you guys like? Looking for options. Thanks.

I have a Liberty Fat Boy Jr., I bought a second top shelf and placed it as far up as the side tracks would allow, I then modified the original top shelf which can only go up as far as the center support by cutting out the side opening to permit more long guns to fit. A little bit of work, but pretty easy for anyone with basic DIY skills.

There are some models that are taller than the typical ones that should suffice (depending on how many guns you're talking about -these would be 6' tall or so.

Smoothie,
I have a medium size Browning White Tail safe with a shelf that is cut out for my 30'- 32" double guns. I have the top shelf installed way up toward the top of the safe, and I am able to get most any long barreled gun into the safe. The oblong slot Browning engineered into the shelf, is very nice for the real long barreled guns. I only have about 4 double guns with barrels over 30" long. I keep most of them in the safe, unfortunately Browning engineered the cut out in the shelf toward the back of the safe, instead of along the side. However it still works out fairly well for storing my long barreled double guns.

I am currently having the same problem. I am the first gun owner in my family . I am 31 and bought my first gun in November of 2021. I am now up to just shy of 30 or so. My safe filled up fast and it's too short! I am looking at 6ft tall safes right now. My big problem is that I am on a crawl space and I don't know if my floor joists can handle the 800+ pounds in one spot without sagging. Guess I will be having my brother-in-law structural engineer taking a look at it.

Rutterbg,
If you intend on a big gun collection IMO you could have a designated gun room that has a sliding door that conceals the room totally from view behind the wall. I had such a room in my Slidell, La home. It was the best set up for keeping my guns secure and nobody knew the gun room even existed. It also eliminated the heavy gun safe problems.

Ohhhh I really like that idea! We are going to be building/moving in the next 5 years or so. I'd like to build a humidity controlled 'armory' that is completely hidden and locked with thick concrete/steel walls. I'll have to make that a priority when we start looking/building.

I recently purchased a second safe. Because I have never been pleased with the layout in most safes I decided to dedicate my older safe to handguns only and replaced the rifle spupport shelves with full shelves. The new safe is a typical Liberty layout with the shelf supports that force you to have multiple rows of long guns. I found that to be a pain so I called Liberty and had then send me a U shaped support shelf so that I didn't have to play the musical guns game every time the long gun I wanted was not in the front row. It also allows much easier access for longer guns (like shotguns) that previously had to be wrestled out of the safe.

Tell me about that U shelf please.
Thanks!

This. We built our house 27 yrs ago and I had like....5 guns. Had I known then that my collection would grow to 170+ guns, I'da built a separate walk-in concrete room with a safe door instead of buying a new safe every couple of years. Woulda been a LOT less expensive.

My safe came with the shelf shown on the left which I found to be very inconvenient. I had seen the shelf shown on the right on the Liberty website so I called them to see if I could purchase that style as a replacement. They told me the shelf was not available as an option but I was able to talk them into making a "custom" shelf for my safe.

Mine is "supposedly" a 35 long gun; but I would have to remove the right side shelves. Maybe one of the pieces I don't use will give me somethingfor expansion. But I am still going to need another safe then for my handguns. As it is now, I have 4 handguns and 5 longgun that have no room
