I have been considering a CG Challenger Ascent…. These stories of having to send guns back to Italy for a refinish is concerning. A lot of these guns seem to be Summits but the Challenger Ascent is basically the same receiver with added engraving. I am sure both guns share the clear coat process. Any similar stories of needed factory refinishing (in Italy) on the Challenger receivers?

I raised this subject a few years ago as I have always had concerns about the durability of the clear finish. Mine certainly has some tiny scratches but you have to look really closely to see them.
The truth is that I'm almost anal in protecting the finish by keeping solvents well away for example and handling it very carefully. Considering the trouble CG have taken with the rest of the build quality and finish I am a little disappointed by the clear coat.

Over here the distributor offers a service where guns can be sent back to the factory for a full refurb, as in the whole gun not just the action finish. It costs about £600 but I may splash out this year even though it means being without it for 3 months.
