I’ll keep shooting 7.5s so I have one less thing to think about.
I am with you on this thinking. I have trouble moving to that size in the .410 as it just seems like not enough shot going downrange.

For shooting moderate to long targets, we'll say in the 40-60 yard range, with all things being equal, 1oz @ 1180 through a Modified choke, would you prefer hard premium #8 as in STS or AA vs. economy shells as Top Guns or Gun Clubs in #7.5?
Easy choice, which ones are on sale the cheapest? Which ever is cheapest is what I will be shooting. I'm not wasting a moment worrying about 1/2 a shot size.

we shot country doubles today, there are a few long high shots. i was shooting 20ga #8's skeet chokes and did well. the whole time i was thinking 12ga and 7-1/2's on the long shots and at least 8's and an oz of lead or more for everything else. if for nothing else a confidence booster.
